Photographer's Note

Cedar Breaks is a beautiful but less traveled area close to so many of the other natural wonders of southern Utah. The top of the formations is over 10,000 ft in elevation. According to my GPS, this location was 10,320, and was taken just as the sun was setting.

Most of the formation opens to the west, so often the evening sun, with its warmth in color makes for the best viewing. Most of the vantage points I know of are from the top looking down, there is a significant view of the entire plateau from these areas.

This image is a stitch of 5 vertical images to create the panorama. It comprises about a 160 degree view. Exposure was set manually, and in another frame, I placed a gray card for accurate color balance.

When shooting, especially at sunset there are significant winds that wash up through the canyons, a good solid tripod is important.
