Photographer's Note

The spectacular Mendenhall Glacier is located a few miles north of Juneau, Alaska. It is a very popular tourist destination in part due to fairly easy access by vehicle. The glacier, which flows into suburban Juneau, retreated 1,900 feet between 1951 and 1958 and a further 1.75 miles (2.82 km) since 1958.
On a short hike behind where this image was taken, markers show the position of the ice flows as above.
