Photographer's Note
Muir Woods National Monument, one of the last stands of old-growth redwood forest on Earth. This cool, damp, redwood forest and the waters of Redwood Creek shelter a well-adapted spectrum of plant and animal life. From the ferns and sorrel that carpet the forest floor to the coho salmon and steelhead trout who spawn in the creek and the spotted owls and Steller’s jays high in the branches of its trees, Muir Woods is reminiscent of an ancient and more peaceful world.
I had forgotten my tripod, so I braced my camera on a fence to take this photo.
