Photographer's Note
Here is another view of Mt. Rainier, this time from the south east. As the day went on it got cloudier and cloudier and this shot was about the last one where I could still see the top. Any volcano that is 14,410 ft (4392m) tall and gets as much precipitation as this place does you would have to expect clouds a fair bit of the time. Under the clouds from this view are the Nisqually, Paradise, Muir, and Cowlitz glaciers, which are all in retreat.
This shot is a re-post after comments that the original was too sharp. Even though I've taken a large number of shots with the D70 I'm still trying to figure out the ideal amount of USM for my landscapes before posting on TrekEarth. I uploaded the old version as a workshop. Thanks to everybody who critiqued the first version.

I wish I had seen the comments on the first time you posted it. I've come to the conclusion that the amount of sharpness can be personal taste, unless there are visible "artifacts" that indicate over-sharpening. I can't see any artifacts on your "over-sharpened" image and it looks fine to me. Having said that I was been criticised a lot for over-sharpening, until someone said to reduce the radius and not the amount. Since I started doing that no-one has mentioned it. It's the last thing I do after resizing for TE before saving.
I like this view of "the mountain" with the clouds round it. Was it from one of the higher trails from Paradise?

Hej Stephen,
Another impressive landscape view. I like the small grey clouds in front of the mountain. The composition with the dead tree at the left hand side of the picture is also very good, well done.

Good mountain shot. I like the clouds around the peack, which makes this more interesting than if it was totally clear. The tree on the left is a nice touch too, because it adds some depth to the shot. well done!

Hi Mr. Steve, A nice capture of the beautiful view. I am impressed by the efforts you have put there to try to re-post the picture. You have refined this picture with removal of the artifact of the sharpening.
I like this "Mr. Steve" style of grand view to this picture with the mighty mountain under the veil. Well composed and nice contrast.

Hi Stephen
A truly wonderful landscape you present for us here - the mix of colours makes the photo very special to watch - I like the naked tree in the foreground to give us depth in the image - thanks for sharing.
Perhaps you WS even better - more details - but this one do nicely

Including a tree was a clever idea, adding a point of interest in a classical postcard view.
Cheers... and thank you!

Hi Steve. Again it's a bit cloudy but so much crisper and more to see than when I was there 3 yrs ago. Good inclusion of the tree at the left, and nice natural colors. This one is definitely better than the oversharpened version.
At the risk of sounding too nosy, I'm going to mention that the correct way to do a repost is not to delete the original, but to go to your "manage" section and click the re-post link beside the original (which will eat your daily posting credit but which will keep the original, including feedback and credits received, intact).

Hi Stephan,
I'm glad this is a picture (and an excellent one) and not a painting of that horrible painter Bob Ross.

Very well done Singuanti. I love this capture including the tree on the left. This mountain seems to be a very popular place for photos. but your posting here is a very gorgouse one. Good work and lets see more of your trip. Too bad the weather was not clear blue sky like you had wished for.

Hello Stephen
Imposing mountains overlooking its neighbors.
Your shot gives us a good view of the surrounding area. The snow cap must be seen from far away on a clear day.
I like the dead tree that you include at the left, the optic get us thinking that it is as high as mt-Rainier.
A good one

What a view! Does the mountain have snow all the time all day of the year? Very good colors and lighting, Stephen! For me, the sharpness is already good! Which one is higher by the way, this mountain or the 'nearby' Mt. Hood? rgds.

Hi Steve,
A nice view of Mt Rainier well introduced by the lone tree on the left, nice little hanging clouds and beautiful blue sky contrasting well with the snow capped summit. About sharpening, I agree the 1st version was a bit too much sharpened, looks much better now.
Have a nice weeke nd,

Hi Stephen,
I tried to visualize how it would look like without that miserable looking tree and found on the contrary that it actually did a lot of good to your composition. The different shades of green is great and the snow capped mountain is definately eye catching. Well done!! Have a nice day.

Good evening Stephen!
The charming dead tree on the left side adds a lot of beauty to this composition. Fantastic view at the white slopes of the Mt.Rainer and hills in foreground covered by forest. Super landscape!
Thanks for the note
