Photographer's Note
This photo was taken this weekend on a beautiful hike near Mt Baker in northern Washington. This trail, Ptarmigan Ridge Trail #682.1, leads to Coleman Pinnacle, at an elevation of 6100 ft. At Coleman pinnacle you get a fantastic view of Mt Baker, Mt Shuksan, and a collection of other mountains within the Cascade range. This proportion of the trail shown in the picture is along the side of Table Mountain early in the hike. This hill side is a volcanic crater and was very colorful with the foilage turning colors for fall. The trail follows this hillside and goes beyond the hill on the lefthand side and continues farther left to Coleman Pinnacle. It was a great hike, and on a clear day there is no better hiking.
Here is some information on Mt Baker (the mountain in the distance):
Mount Baker (3,285 meters; 10,778 feet) is an ice-clad volcano in the North Cascades of Washington State about 50 kilometers (31 miles) due east of the city of Bellingham. After Mount Rainier, it is the most heavily glaciated of the Cascade volcanoes: the volume of snow and ice on Mount Baker (about 1.8 cubic kilometers; 0.43 cubic miles) is greater than that of all the other Cascades volcanoes (except Rainier) combined. Isolated ridges of lava and hydrothermally altered rock, especially in the area of Sherman Crater, are exposed between glaciers on the upper flanks of the volcano: the lower flanks are steep and heavily vegetated. The volcano rests on a foundation of non-volcanic rocks in a region that is largely non-volcanic in origin.

Hello Brian,
Brilliant composition here - the fall colours showung their best, the valley and the mountain beyond. My only negative critisism, and unusual for one of your photos, it seems to lack a little sharpness. Love it all the same.

Beautiful lines and colours in this magnificent photo. The eye travels from and to the mountain. A different hour of shooting might have made the photo perfect. Excellent work Brian. Keep walking!

Very fine, Brian, you contrasted the bright earth tones very well with the starkness of the mountain. Nice composition! It could be slightly sharper, but that's minor. Regards, Ken.

Hi Brian,
Nice framing with the trail leading through the autumn colors. I don't think I've ever seen such bright colors in grasses. Your POV gives a real sense of the steepness of this very narrow path. Mt Baker sits in the background proclaiming itself as a goal to be reached.
Regards, Pat
