Photographer's Note
Mount Baker
Let’s leave Vancouver for now, it has already become the second most-posted city in my North American collection after New York City. I might post some more Vancouver photos later, though.
The first part of our long journey (about 4,000 km) took us to Seattle. Instead of taking the Interstate-5 south, we tried to get a little closer look of Mount Baker, the volcano which we had already been able to see from Vancouver. Near the town of Glacier, we found a smaller road (NF-39) through the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, which started out as a paved road, but for the better part was just a rough gravel road (which made it quite fun to drive, albeit tiring as well). It took us to a viewpoint from which we could see the volcano from pretty close range.
Mount Baker (also known as Koma Kulshan) is an active stratovolcano in the Cascade Mountains. At 3,286 metres, Mount Baker is the third-highest mountain in Washington State. Mount Baker last erupted from September to November 1880. It was named after 3rd Lieutenant Joseph Baker of HMS Discovery by explorer George Vancouver.

Hello Lars,
I am glad you left Vancouver and went this side road. Magnificent view of this dormant volcano. It seems that you came quite near and high. Fabulous view in the sunny weather, with the blue sky. It reminds me the Osorno volcano in Chile, we also went by car near to it. Looked very similar with the snow.

Dag Lars
Mooi werk

Hello Lars,
You were right to get off the beaten track, the view of the volcano here is magnificent set against the lovely clear blue sky. Perfectly exposed with fine control over white balance. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lars, great close up and a useful large view in the WS of this big and magical mountain that is a volcano too as i can read in your always interesting note. A "winter" pic made in July very well exposed for the best white,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Lars,
Two fine view of the impressive volcano. The large version of this photo makes a lot of difference. The details become so much clearer and the light gets so much better. It also shows that the sharpness is amazing. This view was definitely worth a detour along a bad road.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Lars,
Magnificent alpine scenery of this dormant volcano. All that snow and ice would melt quickly in an eruption and produce a lahar or mudflow, so I hope there are no towns and cities along any of the watwercourses leading down from the mountain. Good sharpness and textural details. The white snow enhances the graphism. Tfs!

Hi Lars,
The tight frame is putting the mountain in evidence. The point of view is showing the detail of Mount Baker. There is a good contrast between the colors of the sky and the colors of the mountain. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Lars,
C'est incroyable comment la neige peut κtre difficile ΰ photographier sous cette lumiθre.Elle reflθte beaucoup et on ne sait pas toujours comment ajuster. C'est trθs bien fait.

Hi Lars,
It looks somewhat less of a cake on this cloesr view than seen from Canada. Nevertheless it is just beautiful. It would be amazing to see an avalanche coming down those slopes.

Hi Lars
yes, as I mentioned to you guys, Mt Baker is a HUGELY popular spot for hikers in the summer, and skiers in the winter. There are walking trails and ski trail all over this Volcano, amazing right! I still don't think the majority of people are aware of this, and the danger it presents to Seattle & Vancouver, its actually quite scary.
its always hard to capture good photos of these far away landscapes, but this one we can make out the finer details quite well. It'd be really interesting to see this without snow too. excellent capture here, cheers

Hello Lars,
De natuur is op zich al een wonder.
Wanneer we deze berg zien, met sneeuw en de mooie contrasten door de donkere plekken waar de sneeuw verdwenen is.
Dit is een voorbeeld van een berg foto, prachtig gedaan Lars. Bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,

Hi, Lars.
Stunning close-up of this mountain-volcano, seen with a large accumulation of snow, its whiteness is broken by steep dark lava rocks, great detail and magnificent textures.
Great color, which gives a lot of appeal to the image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Lars,
I am always surprised to see such a thick layer of snow in the middle of summer. West Coast of US is so diverse! There is so much to photograph over there.
I admire here the great exposition of the snow in this picture. We can see its texture very well. It is very challenging to get it right when the light is bright.
Fantastic to have here as well the blue sky which goes so well with the white of snow.
Beautiful spot, the highest quality presentation,
M
