Photographer's Note

Red, Redder, Reddest

My Life on Mars photo showed some pretty red hills already, but that certainly isnt the only Martian scenery found in the area of the Painted Hill in Central Oregon. This photo was taken on the Painted Cove Trail, a little further down the road from the overlook where I took my previous photo.

The Painted Hills are one of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and famous for the colourful layers of the hills, which were formed in different geological eras. It is considered one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon.
