Photographer's Note
Here is the way to camp on the Big Island of Hawaii. The ground is covered with lava rocks so camping with a tent is pointless. But a good hammock works great. Here north of Kona on the dry side of the island, we made camp with a nice surf break out front. The water is clear and warm with great snorkeling and lots of coconut trees near by. About 50 yards from this camp site is a natural lava tube filled with a fresh water spring. Perfect for a refreshing dip. The springs come from Mouna Kea which rises to over 14,000 feet about 8 miles away. When I was here there was snow at the top. The temp at the beach 80f. My idea of paradise! Kiholo Bay
