Glimpse of a River in Autumn
Big Thompson River - Fern Lake Trail, Rocky Mountain National Park
Another shot from Andrew's favorite trail.
The Fern Lake Trail is one of Andrew's favorite because it does not have that annoying habit of going uphill like most mountain trails .. for the most part it just follows the Big Thompson River as it winds through the mountains.
The river is low in Autumn .. and lower due to some beavers. When I shot it I thought is was wonderful how the river was reflecting the tall aspen in the background. Upon my own reflection I have found several other aspects of the little snippet of the transient water that I enjoy thinking about - probably because I don't think I have ever shot a river vertically like this before or since ...

There is a lot to see here and the image is quite busy and crowded. However, it also has the look of being the scene just as you came upon it when you stepped through the trees onto the river bank, and that I do like. - It makes me feel as if I'm standing at your shoulder and seeing this for myself.

Hi John,
Yellow colored foliages and its reflection on brook are making your scene unique. Green tree at foreground is also good hider too. Congratulations.

Hi John,
I like it very much. You show nicely that beautiful piece of nature, with all its wonderful colors.
So, why don't I give you 2 smiles? Just because I the compo isn't very atractive. Like VeeJayCee wrote, it's "too busy", there are many nice things, like the game of colors (those greens and yellows), the yellow of the water given by the tree, etc, but it is a bit "disorganized".
But, hey, TFS, because it's still wonderful!

The exposure is very good in this shot, I like the clarity of the water and how it reflects the autumn colours. The whole scene is nicely lit. Nice one.

Hi John,
The title is perfect for this study in gold & brown. The golden reflection seems to flow into the gold-bron of the stones. Nice shadow play on the tree trunk, while the evergreen gives a contrast that enhances the gold.
