Photographer's Note
The break at the end of Marine Street is a beach break which provides a great playground for body boarders and body surfers. A beach break allows for close-in photography, while the steepness of the break helps body surfers get on the wave without the flotation of a board. It also drives the unwary into the sand with the force of the break.
In San Diego, this January, we welcomed big surf and the Santa Ana winds which make the wave smoother and holds the wave up for longer rides; it also enhances photography by blowing the spray back over the wave.

Hi Pat,
Serios surfing in January, I wonder what's the water temprerature.
Wonderful action shot, showing the surfer coming fast down the wave edge. Interesting colour difference between the green 'wall' and blue water further down. I'm actually surprised that there's no more motion blur with 1/160.

Hi Pat,
really nice capture of the bobyboarder in action on the wave. Nice colors and capture, I think a more fast speed could reduce a bit the blured. The green water is really pretty.

Hello Pat,
This type of image is always magnificent and very impressive. I tremble for these fearless surfers, by thinking of the size of waves and the possible presence of sharks. Very beautiful photo, realized with a light and natural colors. Bravo.

Hi Pat,
You have caught the happy young surfer at the apex of this spectular wave.
Love the turquoise, white and blue colors created by the giant wave and the nice hint of a reflection at the bottom of the scene.
