Photographer's Note

Zabriskie Point, like so many other areas in Death Valley, was created over long periods from sedimentation left by the various seas that once covered the area. Before you are bands of varying colors layered into interesting features by subsequent erosion, the handiwork of the ages. It requires but little imagination at Zabriskie Point to see the action of wind, rain, sleet, and hail transforming an uplifted area into a maze of broken ripples. The rock on the right highlighted by the raising sun is Manly Beacon.
