Photographer's Note
Visible in the photo are stalactites extending downwards from the roof of a cave and their reflections, evocative of miniature skyscrapers. Luray Caverns underlie Shenandoah Valley of Virginia are found the largest complex of caverns of the United States. Their location is approximately 150 km (94 miles) west of the United States Capital of Washington, DC. It was in 1878 that three men wandering in the hills of Shenandoah Valley felt the cold air rushing out of a limestone sinkhole. Lighting a candle to get a better look into the cave, they saw their candle blown out instantly. This began the discovery of Luray Caverns. The men gently slid down a rope into the cave and were overwhelmed the eerie world of stalactites and stalagmites visible by the light of a candle. From the Smithsonian Institution report of July 1880 described the scenery, “There is nothing more beautiful in the cave than these scarves, shawls, lambrequins of translucent calcite, some white as snow, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle held behind one of them reveals all the structure within.” Formed during 400 million years of calcite dissolving with stalactites dissolving and extending downwards, and stalagmites growing upwards precisely where the former dissolve. During the past week, we had friends visiting from Wisconsin. For years I've lived in the Washington-Virginia Metropolitan area, but this was my first visit to the magnificent natural formations. The area open to the public was about 2 km (1.25 miles) in length. Without a tripod and the opportunity to take time-exposure photos, I decided to shoot with my iPhone 6Plus. I was pleased with the outcome. In the near future, I will post additional photos from this extraordinary cave.

Hello Bulent, sometimes the caves are colourfully illuminated that I thinks rather kitschy although visually attractive. Here we see more natural view. Excellent light management in very difficult conditions. Superb picture.

Stunning view underground's in this stalactites cave, Bulent.
The illumination beautifully enhanced the smallest one's and contrast well on photo.
As I recently told Luciano, we have one impressive cave in Israel - but photography inside is not allowed.
Good new day,

Hello Bόlent,
The cave as such is impressive and the photo is excellently taken. You managed the relatively sparse light very well, enough for us to see the stalactites clearly. I appreciate that the artificial light looks "natural", and that there is no spectacular light show of every available color.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bulent
This well-chosen details gives us an idea of the whole of this large cave. The images is very beautiful and looks like an abstract painting with fascinating patterns and mysterious shapes. The mixture of light and shadow and of real and reflection is mesmerising.
Best wishes

Selamlar Bόlent Bey,
This is an interesting frame, a careless first look gives the impression that it's abstract but then one realizes what one is looking at. Very nicely done!

MT
PS. Even thinking about Turkish Delight Kebap House makes my mouth water, as I wrote in my note, a week later when we were passing by Halifax we went out of our way to eat there. When I suggested that detour, the response from the family was a resounding yes.

Hello Bulent,
Your iPhone handled the difficult lighting beautifully. This spot is definitely ererie, but in a magical way. I like the large rock lying on the ground, and the way the light is shining on the hanging stalactites. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Hi Bulent
well, i have to say, then i think of caves I certainly don't think of Virginia USA!
its great that you were finally able to see these caves in person, having lived here for several years. my favorite part of the scene are the stalagmites on the bottom, that portion of the photo is more mysterious looking and darker with more shadows. very cool photo overall, its not too often we see scenes like this. cheers

Hi Bulent,
yes I would be pleased with such effect as well. Great presentation of this attractive cave. I am always quite bad with photos of caves. This is quite brilliant! I like the multiple layers of the composition here.
