Photographer's Note

The autumn colors were at a peak this past week, and I made sure to stop by Central Park for a look. One of my favorite spots in the park is Bethesda Terrace, where you have the beginning of what is simply named "The Lake". It is the second-largest body of water in Central Park (the first being the reservoir).

There are 20 beautiful acres to explore, either by walking around the perimeter or renting a rowboat. With such stunning natural views, it is hard to believe that the lake is actually man-made. The area was originally swampland that was excavated.

The lake touches on many of the park's iconic sights: Bow Bridge, the Boathouse, Bethesda Terrace, and more. It is filled with wildlife. I love to sit by the edge feeding the turtles and ducks. I have also encountered very large fish, and some assertive geese. :-)

The leaves are falling rapidly now, so here is a last look at autumn before it melts into winter...
