Photographer's Note

i saw the house when it was architectural floor plans. when the concrete foundation was ready, and the first wood of the first floor was down, without the stud framing for that floor level or the upstairs floor in sight, the house looked small. within the first few weeks of house becoming a home, a wedding reception was held there. over the years i am there, enjoying the interior, exterior, lawn, gardens, trees, wild turkeys, and live deer.

the staircase is one of the highlights of the house. i marvel when i see contemporary craftsmanship, that in our industrial cost-conscious age, attention to design and art go on. local artisans in the countryside of massachusetts produce with care and detail.

there is a former palace that was shattered by nazi forces during world war ii outside leningrad in russia. when i was at the palace, about 30 years ago, it had been transformed into its former glory, with photos about of its appearance when damaged.

architecture and craft give us more than shelter. they can bring to us life and new eyes.
