Photographer's Note
As seen on the Arch grounds on July 4, 2009, a little after 8pm.
I was sitting on a bench watching the crowd and snapping an occasional photo, I noticed this child watching me. I thought it was a girl, but that's what I get for thinking - this is a boy, as I was corrected by his aunt, a lady with a big thirst for lemonade.
Anyway, he watched me but if I pointed the camera in his direction he would duck and his aunt and big sister would also hide their faces if they thought they were getting in the shot.
I love the Sigma super-wide for this. You can point it one direction and it gets everything 102 degrees wide. For this one, however, I was allowed to shoot everyone with their permission, after a certain amount of schmoozing.
There is such a mixture of folks at the Independence Day celebration under the Arch in St. Louis every year. I think the people were more fun than the fireworks on this night. That's true independence!

Hi Reed,
Babies are pretty much whatever you want to be. You put any pink outfit on the baby, it's a girl and blue it's a boy. Black and white shot, I have no idea :)
One of my friends have a girl, but the mother does like pink, so she'been dress up in blue, and people always think she a boy, even though she is long beautiful eyelashes and all, it's a very beautiful boy.
I like the glances he gave you, baby also looks to see who will play with them. I like the liveliness and cheeful atmosphere here. Thanks Reed.

love the old school feel of this image
Ok it looks a bit over exposed towards the back but this is likely just the sky washing as it does.
all round interest points and a fantastic note just the way i like them
Apart from the buggy the child is sitting in and some of the fashion this image is timeless and could be from just about any period
Well captured

Hi Reed, no doubt you've worked your charms and conned sorry persuaded these lovely people to be in the photo. I love the effect of the wide-angle lens. The B&W is excellent, nice and strong with great contrast. And the look on the little guy's face is a winner for me. Nice work, you've shown alot of patience and it's paid dividends. Have a great Wednesday, Lisa

Hi Reed,
I really like the wide angle here that makes this photo very specific.
The glance of the boy is priceless:)
I think this is one of the best of yours.

Hi Reed,
You clearly have a good connection with them. Distance to your lens is within inches and they don't mind. Neither do they stare it, which would ruin the atmosphere too. Cosy feeling here, nothing much going on, but people clearly enjoy the free time.

Good Morning Reed,
Great shot and well taken. The kid looking directly gives a very good view. The choice of B/W is perfect for the subject. I can see one lady staring at the rightmost top corner. Nice framing and composition.

A truly delightful street scene, Reed.
Missing a bit those feet and the stroller's wheel but, overall - nice catch, with the bit of flavor ( little face of an angel in there).
Keep running, breathlessly, bro.
