Photographer's Note
Oaxaca's walls are scarred with political graffiti, most of which have been covered up with paint by the local officials.
But this one... they didn't cover up.

Julie,
What a striking photograph. I love the white women against the gorgeously rich red wall. I like that you included a person in this photo. IT might have been nice to try and play a little bit more on the graffiti maybe include some lovers. I suppose looking again she does look a little sad so it does work quite well. Excellent shot.
Cheers

Hi Julie,
Haha, watching the thumbnail I thought that it was a nun! That would have been really strong hahaha. But this is a great catch as well. Very vibrant colours. The lady is a bit overexposed, but still okay and contrasting well in a sense.
Just watched at your website. Really well made. Good design by your Alter Egor. Great shots. Some black and whites could do with a bit of noise reduction, but I guess that due to the compression needed for publication on the site. Black and whites on Cambodia well appreciated. Very strong, your portraits on Guatemala. Wonderful colours! I love my colours. Ecuador is very colourful as well. There you worked a lot on your depth of focus. Thanks for sharing all of this!
Greetings, Dennis

Julie, superb strong colors between the red and white dress of the woman. Your pov and perspective is excellent as well as highlighting a message... And yes at the end of the day 'all we need is love'...Well done and TFS

Impossible not to *love* this one. That red wall - the real color of love - is magical. It's a pity the whites in the woman's dress are slightly blown. It would be a stellar picture with those whites properly exposed. Like the contrast you achieved here by using her as a subject. It's really a striking photo.

Excellent and original compo, I like the colors and the texture of this red wall with that inscription and the silhouette of the woman in white.

Hi Julie,
Lovely picture. That very intense red wall screams by itself. The woman dressed in white blowing her nose could give the appearance of being crying. And then, the graffiti simple fills the scene... All she needs is love :)
All the best,
Andre

There is about half-a-million people living in Oaxaca ...
And you Julie, certainly have chosen the best one to match the graffiti on the wall: All You Need Is Love ...???
Have the one with smiles...

Incredible story! The apparent 'crying' effect yields by the sneezing of the woman and the message on the wall provides a huge contrast; this contrast gets even more emphasized by the color difference between the wall and the woman. Amazing!

Hi Julie,
Good graphic impact of the graffiti on this red wall. The woman is well placed, although I'm not sure that she specifically is the best juxtaposition for the slogan.
Good effort, however!

Welcome to TE Julie. Found you from Oaxaca link. I am glad that you are posting here. You will love this community. It is more interactive than PBASE and the members tend to be more honest and critical. Your pictures will be well appreciated here. I would suggest that you interact with other members (through critiquing etc.) and participate actively so that others get to know you and your work. I often find oustanding pictures from members which go unnoticed due to their lackadaisical participation.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing your work here

Hi Julie.
I was looking Oaxaca pictures, and I find this one...I think this shot represents totally the surrealims mexican in all their facets. When I was in Oaxaca the Zocalo was occupied and closed, all the walls in the city were painted with protest graffitis, then there aren't police, the street was taken and it has curfew at 21 hour, none bus can go in or out from the city after this hour...and this wonderful people, who has the bigger capacity to overcome and to forget than I never seen, tried to keep on with their lifes again and again...that's exactly what your shot is telling to me,and the principal reason for my critic, moreover this I find it full of feelings and colours(like all Mexico by nature..),the simple but great combination of colours here make your shot worthy of praises..Sincerely congratulations.
Sonsoles.

I wish there is a way I can give you more than two points!
I've seen this photo before (some other site) and loved it, loved it, loved it. Maybe you can argue that it doesn't show much of Oaxaca - it's not a classical postcard-type of photo - but on the other hand, this red is so....Mexico. Love it, love it, love it......
