Photographer's Note
In one of my previous posts (Blind Faith), I wrote that it will always remain a mystery to me, how a man makes the decision, to deny all earthly pleasures and become a monk.
If this is something dificult to understand, then what about the people that chose to live in these hermitages that you can see on the lower part of this vertical rock, searching for communication with their God? How can a man live in a tiny hole of a rock? At least, in a monastery, there are some "comforts".
INCREDIBLE!!!
These are the Hermitages of Saint Anthony and Saint Gregory, close to the abandoned monastery of Saint Nicholas Badovas. You can see them if you take the footpath that connects Kastraki village and Kalambaka town.
PS. The light was so exciting that day, the last rays of the sun painted everything around in golden tones, that I forgot my "schedule" and missed the sunset...

Really incredible, Hercules !
Good that you posted also the workshop, it΄s even more spectacular.

The light is also spectacular.

Fabulous colours and the ladders show the whole scale of the rock face. No way am I likely ever to be a monk, but I can see the attraction of a place like this for contemplation.

Hello Hercules,
maybe, the one you describe so vividly here, is one of the most hard ways monks can choose to profess their faith!
The light and the colour in this shot are very beautiful and the tiny caverns give an idea of the scale. Impressive!

Hi Hercules,
Fabulous colors distinguish this shot. The effect of erosion on the rock surface provides the perfect artistic touch required here.
Talking about monks and hardships, even I am on the same page with you. I have heard of Indian monks( commomnly called sadhus), who spend their lives in small Himalayan caves, much below freezing temperatures thruout the year, in search for the almighty. A popular philosophy advocates that the pleasure these people find from their lives is far more as compared to the pleasure(materail, I mean) that we common people look for. Its amazing how they
elevate themselves to such a high degree of humanity.
Regards,
Sagarneel.

Hi Hercules,
It seems the home of the ants, almost a monochrome work, and the colour of monocrome is superb. Perfect POV.

Hi Hercules
An incredible sight indeed! The ladders & tracks carved into the precipice are well captured here. I like the warm yellow red colour of the rock, which approximates a sepia tone. Tfs!

Hi Hercules
I can't imaging living in such a place. Bringing in food and removing waste would be an all day chore but then I suppose a person has all day. Magnificent shot with strong warm light.

Geia sou Hercules,
Amazing place, great light and photo. Thanks for sharing this.
I have read your note, it is strange for me that a Greek is not able to understand his ancestors. Is that the effect of globalism and modernization? Or it was just a rethoric question?
Kind regards,
Cosmin

Hi Hercules, This is an incredible place to live as a monk. The ladders show the scale well, as it looked like foot scratchings before reading your notes. Good bold colours. TFS. Murray.
