Photographer's Note

I liked this commentary on modern Mexico, perhaps most indicative of modern Mexico City though. The statue has stood in the city since colonial times and has now been joined in the background by the signs of modern times all around the world, those of advertising billboards. The statue is made all the more defiant by the dark clouds of the approaching storm, as if holding her bow to the sky to fight off the approaching weather. The statue itself is a small shrine to changing and modernisation. Until recently she had been wearing a bronze skirt as her bare bottom was considered a little too risquι for public viewing!
