Photographer's Note
Maligne Lake
For sure Maligne Lake was one of the most beautiful places we visited on our whole trip. The weather was great that day with almost no clouds in the deep blue sky, so it was really nice to take pictures, especially with my polarizer. We stayed three days in Jasper National Park on Whistlers Campground, a really nice campground about 2 kilometers in the south of Jasper, where you can see many wapiti elk browsing on the meadow next to your tent (or RV). On our second day we drove about 50 kilometers south. Our ride through the park was already really beautiful and of course we made lots of stops (maybe you remember this one) and walked some trails to see as much of the wonderful landscape as possible. And then, in the afternoon we arrived at Maligne Lake located at an altitude of 1670 m. I immediately made friends with the whole scenery because I liked the lake, the red roofed Maligne Lake Boat House, the forest and the mountains in the background. But before I took any pictures, I went swimming in the ice cold but amazingly clear water that is brought to the lake by a glacier river. It was really nice to swim there, like in all the Canadian lakes, though you couldn΄t stay much longer than thirty seconds inside :) After that, I instantly got my camera and my tripod out of my bag and started to think what would be the best way to capture the scenery. When I was looking for a suitable point of view I discovered a group of ducks swimming on the lake and a yellow boat some metres behind them, so I immediately stopped and took some pictures.
F/14 gave me an exposure time of 1/20 seconds and as I had my tripod with me, it worked quite well. I originally took this picture in 14-bit RAW (NEF) , so I converted and edited it with Adobe Photoshop CS3. But again, the polarizer was mainly responsible for the colors.
I΄m glad for any advice, hint or proposition, that could help me to improve my photography.

Hello Jonas,
Really great photography. Good useful technical notes. It seemed to me that we should be learning from you! Clean & high quality presentation with good composition & timing. I like the positioning of the kayaks and the diamond formation of the ducks. Well done. Regards. Latiff.

Hi Jonas,

Hello Jonas ,
Really a beautiful picture ! You have chosen to give a large place to the sky , and that gives a feeling of immensity . The composition is excellent , with the hut , the canoes , and the ducks on the beautiful lake , and of course , the nice mountains in the background . Very fine colors , too .
Congratulations

hi Jonas
The combination of a blue clear crisp sky, good direction of light, use of CPL, well composed POV, f/14 and slow shutter makes this a magnificent capture of a wonderful landscape view of JNP's Maligne Lake.
Shooting from a level angle helps to show the space of the lake. The sharpness is great.
I like the group of ducks nearer to you and the kayaks. Simply excellent.

Hello Jonas
It is a wonderful shot from this famous lake, I see the ducks were in attendance to when you were there. I also like the Kayak in this also. The polarizer had made some excellent colours here.

Wow, Now I can really see what it's like at Maligne Lake, when I was there last August it was snowing here and I could only see partially the landscape. I'm so depressed that I miss this fantastic landscape all togather. Thanks for showing me what I missed. Sniff Sniff. I will post in WS to show you what it was like when I was there. So Sad, so Jealous. Lucky you.

Hello Jonas,
Wonderful. Very nice with those geese in the foreground. Or is it some kind of large duck?! The toning in the greens is very natural and the colours in the blue gradual nicely punchy. Very nice!

Jonas, another nice one for your gallery. I love these scenes of nature at its best, the places we have disturbed the least I suppose. This is peaceful, like the perfect picture of it, great capture.

Hello Jonas,
What an incredible crystal clear image! A group of ducks plays a very important part. Brightness of the mountain increases clarity. I like this clarity a lot.

Olα Jonas, hehe, funny comparison with the experience of Way. It΄s impressive because both situations were taken in August. And I can't imagine how could you swim - the temperature of the water must be freezing! Anyway, the scenery is gorgeous and you did a great job, as usual. Lovely inclusion of the ducks on the corner and the yellow canoe further away.
Have a nice day,

Hi Jonas
Well done for this nice view with a very good luminosity; I appreciate well this composition.
However I give you my opinion about the polarizer used with a wide angle; there ise some difference in th blue colour in the sky between the right and the left part.
Friendly regards.

Hello Jonas
A wonderful landscape with f/14 and that slowish shutter speed. Thanks to the tripod, the sharpness is excellent. Love the compo really with the geese in the FG, and the boathouse with the canoes in the lake waters. The yellow canoe catches attention. Fine polarised blue sky you've got as well. A fine shot Jonas, well done
Best Regards

Hi Jonas,
Good use of polarizing here which gives to this sky a splendid blue, emphasizing the remainder of this marvellous landscape. I like much this point of view, what a superb holiday place !!! Cheer for qualities of the photograph as well in the colors as in the smoothness of the image. Beautiful work and thank you Jonas.
With all my friendships and a very good WE,
Jean-Charles
