Beautiful lightning storm that passed overhead. It was moving very slow so allowed me the opportunity to watch it from this safer distance across the lake.

Cheryl, I am always awed by photographs of lightning. This is especially so of digital camera shots, due to shutter lag...it seems the photographer almost has to predict when and where the lightning will strike. That does not leave any room for real "composition" by the shooter.
This image is particularly good because you nailed the exposure and produced exceptionally good tonal range.
The horizon is level and not centered, hooray!

Hi Cheryl,
This is an amazing capture of a very difficult subject. My husband says the way to do it is to just leave the sutter open but that seems to require full darkness to be effective. Living in a land of little lighting I've never suceeded. Do you have any suggestions?
