Photographer's Note

Violent windstorms have been striking the Pacific Northwest in recent days, with resulting damage to thousands of homes and massive power outages. The high wind velocities are partly the result of warm air from the southern Pacific meeting cold Arctic air fronts. This scene, though taken earlier in the year, indicates the advent of a storm on South Pender Island, where waves batter the beach and cause much bank erosion, which damage has been worsening with higher global ocean levels.
