Photographer's Note
Driftwood and evening light at Craddock Beach, Pender Island. Between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia lie dozens of islands. Approximately six of these are large enough to support populations of between one thousand and twelve thousand people and are known as the southern Gulf Islands, of which Salt Spring Island is the largest.
The islands do not really lie in a gulf, but rather the Strait of Georgia. These islands were the home of Coast Salish natives, who lived off the bounty of the sea, including salmon and shellfish. The Gulf Islands region is increasingly referred to as the Salish Sea in honour of these early inhabitants.

Hi John,
Wow…… I wished I was there to make this kind of marvellous pictures. The cold blue shadows of the blue see and the driftwood against the warm red of the rocks warmed by the late evening sun. Amazing effect.

Bonjour JOhn,

Serwus John!
Early morning and late afternoon light is most effective and nice. And this is the proof. I love the scenery and subtle transition from shadow to light here. Great exposure as the forground's tree is clearly visible and none points of overexposure on the cliffs and sky.
Good framing, great quality.
Be well,

Good one John! I like the colour contrast, with the shadowy logs blue (from the sky) and rocks red from the sunset. The reflection off the water is great too, giving the impression of shimmering light. I like the square format - works very well here. Great work!

Good evening John,
I like this view to the red cliffs with pin trees. they form a good contrst to metal like sea.
Driftwood gives always a fascinating view with the 'polished' surface by sea and time! Great colors.
Have a nice weekend.

This wooden piece is a major element from this composition, not only helping to built the picture but also carryng the viewing person out from the picture for other thoughts that the simple contemplation.
So it is in opposition with the lighted part and strong colors from the cliff.
A good ying and yang picture, and a classic construction for landscapes but with good elements
I like it

Hi John. What is interesting here is how you have a cold blue cast in the foreground and a warm light in the distance. That gives the shot good contrast. It's also good the way you included the driftwood into the shot. Nice work John.

Hi John,
As usual, a perfect shot! The landscape seems to be gorgeous and wonderful for some treking. This evening light is very beautiful and well captured, with a good balance between the foreground in the shadow and the sunlight bathing in the background. The effect of the lighting reflections on the water is wonderful and I like the detail of that bird, swimming on the right. Good DOF and composition with this trunk in foreground. Congratulations once more and thanks a lot for sharing!
Have a nice weekend,

This is a stunning image John. There is such an unusual contrast between the warm colours of the cliffs in the sun and the cold colours at the bottom on the driftwood and the shore. The extra details of the reflections and bird in the water are all enhancing.

Hi John,
A very beautiful landscape in this Island in a evening light with so many luminous contrasting reflections. The low angle approach with the driftwood at the foreground making a diagonal line and with the same near deep blue colortone of the water and at the horizon the contrasting light and color of the little hill in Ocre-Green, is splendid and fantastic. Clear picture, great contrasting light and fine sharpness.
Great work as you usual presente us. Very well seen and so well composed. Congratulations and have a nice weekend.

Hi John
Impressive exposure settings on this photo. shaded and the sunlit areas have both come out relatively clear ... Photo shows good contrast between the warm and the cold.
secondly the blue tone over the area in the shadows explains well the phenomenon of blue light being scattered the most.
tfs ... regards ... sarju

Hola John.
Good work with the shadows and lights, very well captured and good composition. Great colors.
I have been observing the picture and there is something in the water that i don't know what is. Maybe looks like the head of a duck or a line that are used to prevent boats getting into the swimming area or something you tried to clone. Hard to say, anyway this is a minor thing without importance.
Well done, TFS.

Hi John,
The bluish overcast over the shadowed area in the foreground gives an interesting atmosphere especially with the contrasting bright background. The strong sunlight showed the rock formation clearly and allows us to enjoy the sight. I love the lighting control. Great shot!! Have a nice day.

The perfect simetry of the blue toned wood and the waves creates a sublime contrast with the warm coloured coast in background, your POV is optimal and, like always, the way how you have composed the picture is excellent, great work!!!
have a nice week,

A classic piece of framing here. Foreground driftwood, middle water, and background landscape with sky. The deep shadows and warm light are excellent, and a good lesson in taking picture when the light is softer. Never been to the West of Canada, only the East. I'm tempted now, though.

A fine moment you captured this remote (for me) place - I like the golden clifs in the fine sunlight - a good contrast to the grey blue water surface and the driftwood - thanks a lot for this photo
- The bird a nice extra element.

Nice shot John;
Yet another great posting of Beautiful British Columbia from you ;-)
Great colors, I really like the contrast between the warm looking rocks and the cold looking water. My only suggestion for this shot John, would be a very slight clockwise rotation to make the horizon a bit more level.
Cheers John,
