Photographer's Note

this rare corona will be the final aurora pic for a while. I took this shot in Saskatoon in a park, there was ambient light and the temps were minus 16C with an icy wind- I must have been the only nut taking pics at 1:30am!!!!
Auroras are always present but come and go in cycles. The solar activity builds up over 5 or 6 years, then subsides again. The last peak year was 2003- the next one should be in about 2013/14- so be prepared.
In the far north the auroras can always be seen, weather permitting, farther south the chances become lower.
Saskatoon one or two nights a week
Paris one night in 70
Munich one night in 100
Rome one night in 1000
Tokyo one night in 10 000
and then there is the weather. During some major storm activity we had overcast skies in saskatoon while people as far south as Mexico had amazing displays. Good Luck!
