1976 Olympics
Now with the 2020 Olympics having been underway for almost a week, I think it is a suitable moment to show something I haven’t shown before either. Our last morning in Montreal in 2015, just before we drove to Ottawa, we visited the Olympic Park (Parque Olympique), which was used for the 1976 Summer Olympics. This photo shows a part of the Olympic Stadium with the Montreal Tower (Tour de Montrιal), the tallest inclined tower in the world (175m). However, the tower wasn’t complete in time for the Olympics and first opened in 1987. The tower can be accessed by an inclined elevator, which can be seen in the photo as well.

Hi Lars,
A very popular stadium of Montreal, it used to give the COVID 19 vaccine to the population. The close-up pont of view is showing the details of this section of the Olympic stadium. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Hej Lars,
Intressant byggnad.
Hδlsningar,
Gert

An excellent POV found here, Lars.
It was considered a groundbreaking design back in 1976 - did not see it on my visit to Montreal in 1978, but than the city-council said it was about to go bankrupt due to the heavy expances of the games.
A fine photo, attractive sight.
Good afternoon,
ike

Hello Lars, A good photo at the time of the Olympics in Tokyo. Interesting structure. As I have read, it is an example of the white elephant (a possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost, particularly that of maintenance, is out of proportion to its usefulness). The same fate is of the Olympics stadium in Athens.
At the moment, Polish sportsmen have only one silver. So bad has never been in the history of Polish presence in Olympics.
Best regards MAlgo

Hi Lars, many years have passed but everything is still well preserved and certainly used, not as it has happened in other places, such as Athens, where everything has been abandoned to its fate. Really an imposing and futuristic architecture considering the period of construction, too bad it was not finished in time. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Lars, a strong, well composed scene.
From your notes, it sounds as if the powers that be, were a little ambitious in expecting the tower to be ready in time. 11 years late is quite a discrepancy!
The tower and buildings presents an abstract picture.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Lars,
Well framed with a photogenic angle this modern tower built for 1976 Olympics ... good contrast and a good memory for me of a visit of this Olympic Stadium and tower, an impressive view from this tower, tfs.

Hi Lars
An intriguing structure and amazing that it took an extra 11 years after it was meant to be finished to open. Good one.
cheers

Hi Lars,
very attractive modern architecture. So suitable for the moment.
You had a lovely weather and you have placed the structure well in your frame. The result has an eye pleasing geometry.
Very well done,
M

Hello lars,
This is a really dynamic piece of architectural sculpture. No wonder you were attracted to it!
You have cropped it nicely, to make the best use of its curves and shapes, all sharply exposed.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Lars
Just recently Brisbane was awarded the 2032 Olympic Summer Games, but I remember the 1976 games of Montreal, which went much more smoothly than those in Munich in '72. The design reminds me of a stylised dinosaur and the same was used in Osaka, Japan at Expo 70. Tfs!

Hallo Lars,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Lars,
Interesting picture showing a part of modern history. You portrayed this precious architecture very well. It is obvious that your father is an architect. (My parents are architects as well, so I have a soft spot for modern architecture as well.) :)
My only humble suggestion is that I would have converted it into a BW to emphasize the structure more.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Lars.
Sensational composition, with this modern construction of a very advanced design for its 1976 era, very beautiful play of curves, as well as light and shadow.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this precious image.
Well done. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
