Photographer's Note
Downtown of the big city, with -7degr.C outside...
“Only those without the sin can sleep so peacefully in the den full of lions”…
Yeah, sure… :-)))))
…………………………………………….
People’s faces…
Like an open book…
Some excerpts from the critiques:
Like a rose that grew in the crack of the asphalt….
Is there hope when we have some color left in our faces …
Amazing of how those city troittoirs can be elegant…?
I hope the sleeping bag is in good condition…

Hello Dear George,
This is one of the most powerful photographs I've seen on Trekearth — literally "the face of humanity" set against the de saturated, dark cold-mine-like background of the streets. Everything about the image, from conception to final implementation, is effective. Bravo!
Warm regards,
Bulent

no no Jurku.. no no..ze tak niewiele a tak wiele..
z serdecznosciami, Agnieszka

hello George,
very, VERY powerful, bitter-sweet and peaceful at the same time, and very raw, same as many other photos from you - they work as steel brush inside our brains to clean them and make us see and notice more. thanks.
take care,
Kristine

Interesting work G. You sure got the eye for a little of this a little of that.
Peace - of course, let's stick to the good part of man. But hmm... to bad if you should depend on a stone bench to find peace..
Anyway your eye for the dark and creative settings is as always in place - (with the interest of catching fellow humans in a personal way ;-) GOOD WORK!

Hi George,
That's a great picture. Wonderful post processing and frame.
The subject speaks by itself.
A favorite to me

You are right, George. But...maybe...maybe. I am not sure. This is one of your great shots. Okay. But if this dreaming boy, or girl, was my son, my daughter, or yours? If you have. I am afraid of this world for our children. But I am a very old woman. Ciao, take care, A.P.

Hello George,
I am reading a book on the cultural history of photography and today, I was reading something about Brassaο Paris de nuit and the surrealist period. And there was that sentence "To many photographic artists, such outsiders as vagrants and prostitutes represented freedom and non-conformity." I don't know why, I thought about some discussion we had when I first critiqued one of your photo almost two years ago... And now... this photo... The following sentence was "Brassaο's Paris by Night carried no message of social reform or personal redemption, but showed such people of the night..." Need more? :)
I rarely like partial de-saturation. But I have to admit that here, there is a meaning. That's all I'm asking for. At the bottom... but the right one...
Bowing low...

Hi George,
Hard and cold granite symbolises well the tough world he has to live in. I hope the sleeping bag is in good condition providing some warmth and softness. Dark tones are a good choice on this one.

He sleeps like an angel, he has a very young face, he even seems happy in his dream with this coloured face...
Minus 7°C !?! Amazing !
Without a sin ? Difficult to know...
I like the texture of the marble (or stone) pavement, contrasting with the silky sleeping bag, the subdued colours except for the very warm face ; and most of all, your framing that I would never have imagined, this is the best IMO !
Another amazing photo, so different from what is to see on TE...
Looking forward to see many more such photos !
Best,
Cath.

Mnie sie on kojarzy z Jezuskiem...
Pozdrawiam. Grazyna.
Juz wstales, Jurku ? A kawe zdazyles wypic, zanim wstawiles ? ;)))
No zobacz, to zdjecie mi wylecialo z glowy, a przeciez bylam i widzialam...
Pozdrawiam w biegu...G.

Hello George.
First, let me say that you have begun again to upload photos with a very good humour, considering what happened to your gallery.
I hadn't seen this one before, but it obviously made a big impression last April.
I didn't know what to expect when I saw the thumbnail. It is a surprise and a very powerful photo to demonstrate both coldness and warmth and the indomitable spirit of the homeless in the metropolis. The proportions and composition make the very most of the subject, and the dark lop-sided frame works to draw the eye to the face.
Very impressive.

Andrew

What a photo...!!
A red face against the darkness, the darkness of the gray and depress surround and not only.
How much? -7dgr.C... Brrr!! and you are out making photos?
I think your problem is stronger than his. At least he sleeps.
Strong photo my friend. A great photo which wakes up consciences.

A powerful image, George, so close...looking at someone sleeping, abandoned...some may find this too much. I am thankful for the feeling it goes and get deep inside me...and others. An incredible gift you have for that. Your PP is magnificent. Hats off.

Hi George,
I'm trying to refute this image. Maybe he's waiting on line for concert tickets. Maybe he's trying out for Canadian Idol. Probably neither, in this weather.
He hasn't been on the streets long. Probably a runaway, probably a fledgling addict.
I have been dreaming about my friend, Mischa a lot lately. Then I wake up and remember she's dead. This picture reminds me of a lot.
Sometimes I feel like sh*t/Sometimes that ain't half of it/Sometimes I'm so high, I'm scared to go to sleep.....I just felt quoting the Drive by Truckers was appropriate here.
