This is another photo that taken in Erzurum during my 2005 Black Sea tour in Turkey.

Erzurum (also written as Erzerum in some texts until the early 20th century, formerly known as Arzen during the Roman period, Theodosiopolis during the Byzantine period and Կարին (Karin) in Armenian) is a city in eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The current name "Erzurum" derives from "Erzen-el-Rum" (literally Arzen of the Romans.)

Erzurum has a population of 361,235 (2000 census.) It is the capital (merkez) of Erzurum Province. Erzurum is the largest province in the Eastern Anatolian Region and is located on a high plateau (1950 m). The city is situated 1757 meters (5766 feet) above sea level and has an extreme continental climate with an average January temperature of -11°C (12°F). Temperatures often drop below -30°C in the winter, with heavy snowfall.

Nene Hatun of Erzurum has become synonymous with the patriotism and bravery of Turkish women who defended the city and its province from Russian attacks during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.

Mustafa Kemal Atatόrk, founder of the modern Turkish Republic, resigned from the Ottoman Army in Erzurum which had been the gateway and portal to Turkish tribes migrating to Eastern Anatolia throughout history, and was declared the "Honorary Native" and the freeman of the city, which issued him his first citizenship registration and certificate (Nόfus Cuzdanı) of the new Turkish Republic.

Erzurum Congress is known as one of the cornerstones of the Turkish War of Independence. The fourth President of Turkey, Cemal Gόrsel, was a native of Erzurum.

Erzurum offers winter tourism attactions and a major skiing center at the Palandφken Mountains as well as its regional academic medical center, rich architectural historical sites and great monuments from the Seljuk period such as the Ηifte Minareli Medrese.

**Cifte Minareli Medrese (literally Madrasa with Twin Minarets ) is one of the finest examples of Anatolian Seljuk architecture. It was built in the second half of the 13th century and used as a theological school. .

One specialty of Erzurum's cuisine is Cağ Kebab. Although this kebab variety is of recent introduction outside its native region, it is rapidly attaining wide-spread popularity around Turkey.

Erzurum, known as "The Rock" in NATO code, has served as NATO's southeasternmost air force post during the Cold War.

The city uses the double-headed Anatolian Seljuk Eagle as its Coat of Arms, which was based on the double-headed Byzantine Eagle that was a common symbol throughout Anatolia and the Balkans in the medieval period.

harika bir mimari fotograf olmus. Her ne kadar dik isik ic bolgelerden detay almamizi engelliyor olsa da bu fotografi cok begendim.

The minarets are well framed!
Interesting light situation gives some special effects, and the view to the city in the back gives a fine sense of depth...
A fine symmetrical composition with good details in the walls!

Fotoğrafı gφrόnce ηifteminarelerin neden yarım kaldığını anlatan anlamlı bir φykό vardı. Sevgi, saygı, tevazu, alηakgφnόllόlόk όzerine, onu hatırladım. Nette aradım sonunda buldum; buraya aktarmak istiyorum:
"Ηifte Minareleri, usta ile ηırağı yapmaya başlamışlar. Usta bir minareye başlamış, ηırağı φtekine. Gόnler geηtikηe minareler de yόkselirmiş. Ne var ki, ηırağın yaptığı minare, ustanın yaptığından daha gόzel, daha gφz alıcı olmuş. Usta bunun farkına varmış ama, ağzını aηıp tek kelime sφylemeyi de gururuna yedirememiş. Ηırak ise, ustasını geηtiğine inanmış. O da anlayamadığı bir gurura, bir bόyόklόğe kapılmış.
Sıcak bir yaz gόnό. Usta- ηırak, harıl harıl minarelerini φrόyorlarmış. Bir ara ηırak dayanamamış, alnındaki terleri silerek, φteki minarede ηalışan ustasına seslenmiş:
- Usta, bana bir su getir!
Bunu duyan ustanın elinden malası dόşόvermiş. Gururu incinmiş, gφnόl kβsesi ηatlamış, gφzleri bulanmış:
Usta idim oldum ηırak,
At kendini aşağı bırak!
Diyerek, kendisini aşağı bırakıvermiş. Bu durumu gφren ηırak, işlediği kusuru o zaman anlamış, όzόlmόş. Elinden malasını atmış:
Ηırağiken oldum όstad,
Ne durursun kendini at!
Diyerek, o da kendini aşağı bırakıvermiş. Her ikisi de oracıkta can vermişler.
Gel gφr ki, minareler yarım kalmış."

Hello Tolga.
Great symmetry here. Using the in-picture framing is a splendid idea. The view of the city through the doorway just ahead of the people is extremely attractive and gives a sense of the immensity of this structure. Good exposure with some nice strong colors coming through.
