Photographer's Note

In the centre of Urfa, visitors can find charming ponds bordered by a Bazaar and a large rose garden. Many pilgrims come to Urfa just to hang out in the garden and feed the fish which are sacred.

According to legend, the origins of both the pool and the fish are tied to Abraham. The prophet, railing against the tyranny of the local dynast Nimrod was captured, carried to the peak of the citadel rock and hurled down toward a massive bonfire below. God interceded and turned the flames into water and the burning logs into fish.

It is said that anyone who catches one of these carps will go blind.
