This mosque has been photographed a million times. I photographed it too, several times but I looked for a shot that would feature it's center dome on why it was popularly called the Blue Mosque and not its original name, The Sultan Ahmed Mosque. I chose going underneath the dome, just off center to avoid the center of the chandelier star.

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque is a historical mosque in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey and the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.

The mosque was built between 1609 and 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. This mosque, also has the tomb of the founder. While still used as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has also become a popular tourist attraction.

The design of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque is the culmination of two centuries of both Ottoman mosque and Byzantine church development. It incorporates some Byzantine elements of the neighboring Hagia Sophia with traditional Islamic architecture and is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period.
