A famous Dutch company had finished the construction of Zonguldak harbour and it was time to build the lighthouses on the north and south edges of the wavebreakers. But they wanted to complete the construction of the port with a complement of the same original stone blocks. As they didn’t want to use concrete to build it , they had a brilliant idea. They found a very famous stonemason who had built the most famous mosques of Mardin. He was invited to Zonguldak and he had completed the view of the harbour as it was drawn in the plan. He had cut the stones as if he had been building a minaret. Since then the wonderful stone lighthouses are welcoming the ships and protecting the city from the waves.
