Photographer's Note
Third and final shot of the Cotton Castle at Pamukkale. Once again there has been no manipulation of the image apart from applying the unsharp mask following resizing prior to posting. I have intentionally left the plants and wall in the background to provide a contrast and set the rest in context.
I think this shot shows the various forms of 'falls' quite well. At the bottom left there is a flat platform, in the centre the stalagtite form, and surrounding this what I look upon as the waterfalls.
The Castle has been created by spring waters which contain high levels of Calcium residues and carbon dioxide. The water is at a temperature of 35C and as it flows the carbon dioxide is released and combines with the calcium residues to create Calcium Carbonate which, over many years has coated the rocks.
The discoloured areas have been caused by pollution from hotels which used to be at the top of the 'falls', but have now been demolished. The authorities are in the process of cleaning up the polluted areas but this will take several years to complete. As a further safeguard to the area, it is now only permitted to walk barefoot on the surface. I can promise you that this is not comfortable as the ground is very uneven and gritty in places.

Beautiful. The first thing i had in mind when I lookd at this picture, was the contrast with the background. And than I read the note :)

J'apprιcie l'excellente mise au point et l'exposition plus que parfaite qui laisse voir tous les dιtails et les moindres reliefs.

THis is a great series. I think you did really well with the bright white details, and including much information about the place, as well as your inclusion of the surrounding area in each photo. Well done.

Well done Keith.

Beautiful capture of this marvellous creation from the hand of nature. I think you did exceedingly well to retain the details in this very white formation ;-)

The comment is excellent , for the picture a more global view could be better ( if possible )

Great to watch this amazing sight - too bad I never been there even I visit Turkey some years ago. I could miss something to give me an idea of the size - but never mind the seems to be some kind of fence in the background.

What an amazing series!! This is an excellent use of the series to show different facets of the same scene.
I think I like the detail best in this phot, but you need the other two photos to really appreciate what is being seen.
All three of your notes are useful both in understanding the Cotton Castle and the photo process as well. I reallyt appreciate the detail you give to the photo process; it is very helpful to learning

Hi Keith,
A lovely and strange place, well taken even if we don't see the nice blue water on your shot.
