Photographer's Note
When Sultan Quaboos bin Said of Oman seized power from his father in 1970, Oman was one of the world least developed countries in the world. With only one short paved road, 1 school and one hospital the country was literally living in the middle ages, ruled by clans. Sultan Quaboos then started a modernization program that catapulted the poor country to the present day. Today Oman is a wealthy and well developed country with thousand of km of tarmaced roads, hundreds of schools and hospitals. Thus the leader of Oman is widely adored by the Omani people.
The picture is depicting the immense desert of the Wahabi Sands, some 300km south of the capital Muscat where today over a quarter of the Omani population lives. Tourism has become an important economic factor in Oman and the touristic infrastructure is growing fast.
Unfortunately my beloved Nikon D610 full frame camera broke down with a shutter problem some days before, so I had to buy a small Nikon Coolpix in order to make some pictures at all during my 14 days stay in the country.

Hello Daniel,
Your photograph (even with a smaller camera) gives us an excellent impression of the desert area, with its steep, ridged dunes and lack of vegetation! I really like how the light and shadows reveal the top of the dune, the undulations and the ridges.
The composition, with the car also strongly placed, is very good.
There is a little suggestion of noise but it doesn't detract from the amazing, desert landscape!

Wonderful golden color world!
Strong backlight with silluette are so nicely presented in the best cropping framework. The contarst of lights and shades are so touchy and quite delicate to see.

Gorgeous photo! I like the warm, golden color, and the amazing texture of the sand dunes. The position of the vehicle in the frame is perfect, and I like the play of light and shadow. We don't see many photos from Oman, and this one is definitely great.

Great colours and sharpness, Daniel. I think I'd have cropped off the white sky, leaving only sandy distance in the frame. Just scroll the picture a bit to see what I mean.

Simply superb! My elder son showed me a very similar shot which he took in Dubai, 2012. Very good transition from foreground to background, and despite the desert, there is much to see.

I am so sorry to hear your beautiful big camera broke down. But you still got some lovely memories of a unique and beautiful trip. This photo is exquisite. I love the strong, warm colours and the impressive textures in the sand. The placement of the car adds another element of interest and a sense of dynamism. And I really like the light flares, which add a retro feel to the image.
