Arash the Archer
The story of Arash Kamangir in Ferdowsi Shahnameh is interesting.
Arash is the greatest shooter in Iranian mythology, who after the end of the Iran-Turan war, was chosen as the Iranian archer to determine the border between Iran and Turan, and fired an arrow from the top of the mountain "Iriokhsheshouta" towards the mountain "Khonovant". The border between Iran and Turan was determined by the arrow fired by Arash, after he put his life in the arrow. The arrow was moving for days until it finally landed on the bark of a walnut tree hundreds of miles away from the original launch site on top of a mountain, on the other side of the mountain.
Another similar story occurred on September 29, 1955. In determining the ownership of the Aras Islands between the Iranian and Soviet frontier missions, it was stipulated that the border line should cross the Aras River, and if there were several tributaries in the area, it would be the middle of the major branch of the border line. There was a dispute between the Soviets and Iran over the ownership of the island near the Abbasi checkpoint over the main tributary of the river. One of the Iranian officers, Lieutenant Noorullah Kathiri, a surveyor of the Tabriz Division, threw his horse fearlessly into the water to prove that the branch that was in Iran's favor was deeper and therefore the main branch. He and his horse disappeared under the waves, but an Iranian border guard named Samad Maddaghli managed to save the Iranian officer. Seeing this scene, the members of the Russian delegation accepted Iran's ownership of the island of 130 in this branch of the river. Island 130 was later renamed Kathiri Island with the approval of the high authorities of Iran, and the first lieutenant Noorullah Kathiri was awarded a prize and a badge of honor.
