Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
I walked through one of the local villages last week and took a photograph of this once proud textile mill. This area used to be famous for the weaving of cloth.
I decided that I would try to capture as many as possible, before it is too late, since the vast majority have now been demolished. I hope I can make them interesting as not all are as pretty as this one.
The mills were situated, initially, near running water as this provided power for the engines to drive the machinery. This mill is no longer used for its original purpose and grass can be seen growing from the top of the tall chimney!
Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to feedback on any aspect of the photograph.
Hand held.
pp sharpened, added soft light, added borders & signed.

Hi Bev.
I envy your ability to go walking nearby in these wonderful villages.
Exquisite viewpoint which gives us a great perspective and very nice reflection of the old mill in the stream. Including the stone wall in the composition was a good idea.
The shot looks very pleasing with its angle of light, and I think it's one of those that might be worth using a circular polariser on; I'm not sure if you have one. It would bring out more colour and certainly give you more detail in the sky. Could be worth correcting the tilt to the right, too! Especially in a shot with such strong vertical lines and planes.
I liked your note, as usual.
Regards,
Andrew
PS we must have been typing each other a critique at the same moment!

Hi Beverley,
one can still see the proudness of this old building. And your POV contributs a lot concerning the brightness! I also like the reflections and the framing on the left side.
A very interesting capture!

I see you have set up a theme already so there must be more to come. The whole appearance also fits with your series on Hebden Bridge. Well composed as usual with the stream and wall acting as lead-ins. The light is good and the reflections lovely. I read the exchange you had with Andrew and not being one to resist a challenge I set about trying to straighten it. Let me know what you think

hello Bev,
good idea of yours to record these old mills before they disappear. My mother was a mill girl and visiting her at her place of work as a child I found the noise and clatter of machinery terrifying. The mill girls had to work hard for their money so their demise is not something I particularly bemoan.
As for your photo, you have captured a nice light with the relections adding a picturesque quality. it looks quamit and cute rather than dark and satanic!

You have done well with this documentary shot with excellent sharpness, exposure and composition. I like the rippled reflection of the building in the water too. The building appears a little tilted, most likely due to tilted camera, unlikely to be caused by perspective distortion at FL38mm.

hi Bev
Lovely place for a stroll and you have done a nice composition for this plant, although a slight tilt of the building.
Such a quiet place and you really know where to find your spot!

Hi Beverly
Good control of the light as this image goes from dark shadows to bright light. I presume there must have been a water wheel at some point.

Hello bev,
A nice capture of a typical small mill - identical in style to those in my area. You have set yourself quite a task to record them !
I keep 'bagging' the odd shot of local mills, but not in any organised way. Perhaps they will add up to some sort of collection eventually!
Best wishes...Maggie

Hi Bev,
Lovely vertical presentation of this wonderful bit of industrial reveloution history.
The old mill stands out nicely against the pastal sky and makes a striking reflection the river that is beautfully framed by the stone wall green shrubs.

Hello Beverley,
This is a good documentary of this reminder of the beginnings of the industrial revolution!
I like the point of view and the nostalgic feeling that is conveyed, sharp fine details in a well composed presentation...
Almost surprising to see this is still standing and in apparently good shape!
Greetings,

Evidence of old era of the industry in rural England, Beverley.
Hope its been restored and preserved since taken in 2008.
Light and shadows over the stream, the edifice reflection over water, and the good sense of depth are all major assets for the composition here.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike
