Photographer's Note
Abandoned building, old fashioned shop, empty street, all a 5 minute walk from the centre of Manchester.
Tech: small sharpening. Taken at 18mm.

Very good choice to use your lens with 18mm here. It gives really a massive effect of the abandoned building. The architecture of the building is really interesting too, it seems to be a 3 in 1 building. (3 differents roof types)
Well done.

I like the the way you are developing your stuyle, Bryan, and I like the direction that you adopted. This b/w composition works great for me, with that black figure on the white background. The 18mm lens distortion also adds, and I am glad that you kept it.
I'll look forward for more of this style from you, I wonder what you are preparing for us.

Since buying the D70 with the 18-70 mm lens, I find myself correcting distortions in post-processing every once in a while. But here is an example where the 18mm distortion adds impact, I think. A good urban scene with this interesting abandoned building, and great timing to press the shutter just when you needed to in order to have the pedestrian's silhouettes against the white part of the wall. Another good b&w presentation, well done Bryan.

Back in time, back in space...
Real B&W has become so rare in TrekEarth that I find your picture "refreshing", in some weird sort of way. Far from the glittering lights and busy streets of the centre, it's quite difficult to fathom what kind of customer would decide to enter here and purchase anything. Nearby, shutters have been rolled down, windows seem to be forever blacked out. Yet, a satellite dish shows that this whole environment hasn't stopped still a few decades ago... though it's dark and drab as everything else. As hopeless as the rest of the scenery, receiving only TV shows in B&W? ;-)
The tiny silhouette of the passer-by makes all the difference!
