Photographer's Note
Well another snowy scene from the north. Whats this got to do with an ice house? Well when we did not have refrigeration in England. We dug holes, made a cavity and a door put a roof on and covered it with an insulating layer of earth at Wimpole (some ice houses are different)Trees could be added to give a deep shade like Horese chestnut but that very source of shade would ultimately destroy the ice house because of the roots. Ice would be collected in the winter from frozen water bodies and stored in the ice house for use later on when it got hotter. Thank god for fridges.

the lack of colours in this image is actually a superb value addition. I like this breath taking and minimalistic view which is kidna tremendously romantic and very well ideated. The etxtuers and tones merge well with the ambience. Nice composition Simon.

Hi Simon,
Interesting notes ... one good idea to conserve electricity (thus helping the environment). Very good B&W composition. The range of tones is just superb. B&W is a tough medium but you certainly did well here. Tfs

Hello Simon. Very catchy photo. Colours are very appropriate, and I quite like the composition, but I'm not sure about all the snow in the foreground: maybe some of it is not needed. Anyway, great interesting photo.
Cheers

Superb photo, Simon. Game of you to post a winter scene in the middle of summer. The b/w treatment is appropriate and gentle in tonal range, and you have a kind of Xmas card shot here. The sharpness and detail are very good, really and the composition is simple but very effective, although I think you could do with a little less snow at the bottom. Good work.

Andrew

Hi Simon,
My first reaction was, so what? It clicked after I read the note. The photo goes well with it. I'd still crop the snow at the bottom halfway up. Good compo otherwise. Regards,
Hakan

Hi simon,
Nice B&W shot. I guess it would be a nice photo in colours too. Interesting note...
Great work.
