Photographer's Note
A shot taken last April in the English Lake District. Not the most original of compositions but still, for me it was my first wooden jetty and so had to be done.
The tricky thing with this is getting it level. I could either have a straight horizon or straight wooden planks along the jetty - but not both. So I decided it was more important in this balanced composition to have the planks straight. I dont actually think the horizon is really at fault - its just the curve of the lake giving the impression of wonkiness!
Taken at the beautiful Derwent Water.

Great shot Adam. I know exactly where this is and it just makes me what to be there! You've captured a very serene moment and the cool colour palette adds to the air of calm and tranquility.
Regards, Paul.
PS - nice article in AP this week, by the way. A celebrity in our midst!

Very serene & tranquil shot Adam. The long exposure has had a nice calming effect on the water, but with still some definition. Wonderful luminous quality throughout. Excellent, Roberto

Masterful work Adam! The pier or jetty isn't an original subject as you say, but this is so incredibly well done that it just jumps out at me with it's beauty. The smoothed out water and wonderful reflections are most resposible for the striking look. Excellent as usual!

Hi Adam;
I was looking at the image and thinking the exact same- but as you mentioned it in your note- I won't bother. I reckon the only way around this would have been some PS magic in correcting the horizon, and roatating the jetty to match.
(to be honest- I think this image would be better if you did)
The sharpness is spot-on as per usual, excellent levels, and I like the bluish greay tones and how they reflect of the soft looking water.
All the best Adam!

Hi Adam,
Well, perhaps most photos of jetties are not so original, but yours is an exception! It seems to be to be like a surrealist painting. The jetty seems to simply hang out in the air, floating high above the misty-like water. (perhaps the black border only at the bottom causes this play with my eyes.) At any rate, the POV and composition are fantastic. The color and clarity of the wood of the pier, and the light playing on it, are all very very good also. An outstanding photo.

Hi Adam
very cool shot. I quite like the curved horizon, together with the 'glassy' surface, this's almost surreal! did you use a very long shutter speed for this...15 seconds or more?
Happy easter,
CheukHin

Great shot Adam! Would love to know the exposure details for this and your other images. The fact that this is just a 200kb version shows the incredible detail you've managed to capture in the planks and uprights.
Fantastic!

It's unbelievable but I never question myself about that...for me the horizon has to be always straight. This is for me to learn to always question my personal dogmas, thank you Adam.
