Photographer's Note
A grey morning at Portsmouth Harbour. The foreground object is actually the tidal clock at Gosport (Godsport) and the massive tower in the background is the new Spinnaker Tower observation point in the city of Porstmouth. This place was so familiar to me as I grew up as a teenager - how many times I crossed this harbour on the ferries. Going back to this area of Portsmouth now, especially Gun Wharf where the tower stands is a bit like visiting a foreign land for me as commercial interests have supplanted a significant part of the city's long naval history. However, the grey ships of war and supply are never far away - just off shot to the left is one of the UK's few remaining aircraft carriers......actually the word 'few' is exaggerating!!!!.......................

Hi Kev
This is a new and interesting pov across the harbour. I too as a child took this ferry many times, and it seems that the view has changed and been modernised since. The dull grey weather adds as an aesthic backdrop to the grey clock and the tower to give a unified feel to the image.

This strikes me as intensely beautiful in a very formal way - I guess ytou are suffering from the same syndrome as myself, Kev - folks expect prople in your shots and wehen they are absent...ouch! But wrongly in my view as here you demonstrate a clear graphical vision and artistic sense. It'S just a terrific landscape shot that takes on "human" character.
Best,
Francis

i tend to agree with francis - we all get used to certain "styles" of our fellow-photogs and expect to see ever more "sophisticated" pieces continuing the style...
i respect you for this "difficult" photo, difficult for it doeas not show anything "interesting" in a sense that the image would easily grab the attention of the visitors...it is strongly personal and much an evidence of your graphical way of seeing things, and i appreciate it as such...
i have some serious doubts about the presentation though, the image is very dark, so much so that i hardly can see anything in the foreground in the bottom of the image, juts a dark undefined "thing"...
i guess it is again your tendency to prepare the photos for large format prints...in this case, imo, it did not work for the screen presentation too well...
tc, j.
