Photographer's Note
st Mary street, Friday night
I had some problem with bouncers on that night, I was shooting from the street people in front of one bar, bouncers didn't like it, one of them quickly came to me and told me "don't take pics of my club or I will slap you"... the guy completely ruined my mood, I took very few pics and went back home. But next day shooting there was a pleasure, smooth and people were very nice. you never know what will happen there.
and on Saturday I had an interview with a reporter from 'Wales on Sunday', the biggest Welsh Sunday paper. They found my pictures and probably will publish some of them next Sunday, 2 pages centrespread! fingers crossed!

Hi Maciej,
well seen!! The scene is really interesting to look at : the main subject, the girl static, and the "half blurred" man.
Good light also.

Hi Maciej,
I really hope you get them published...I would love to see what they wrote about you. "once upon a time" I wrote two newspaper articles - they tend to publish them when they have gap, which is not too helpful if you don't read the local newspaper! Anyway, I hope you get something out of it because I think you capture nightlife really well... However, I am not totally convinced by this whole picture...for me, there is something missing but I don't know what...sorry. I would love to have seen some more of what is going on in that window, but for me, the left hand side just lacks interest as you have managed on the right hand side...
Yeeeah, bouncers are just that - bouncers! pretty arrogant t*at's most of them...they probably hadn't roughed anyone up that night and had a bit of testosterone to spare! I very much doubt it was "his club" anyway...what a pri*k!
do you go out shooting on your own in these places?
(sorry - points have been switched off)...

Interesting choreography in this one, Maciek, and a fun "head-banging" resulting from the very split second that you pressed the shutter. A simple but quite good street scene, and again you're showing a good handling of the light conditions to render the urban evening ambience. Congrats on the newspaper spread.

ANother brilliant one, Maciej. Incredible timing for one but the shadowy man on the left gives added continuity to the shot, as does the woman leaning against a wall. You are making the MOST of Cardiff at night, all this output is approaching Brassai, man. Rerally excellent and would make a first class exhibition. Ever thought about approaching Kev Ryan in Leicester. He is an art impresario extraordinaire and really knows the ropes. Just an idea...
Best,
Francis

An amusing play with the visuals Maciek, you've made something amusing and interesting from essentially nothing. The mix of strange artifical lighting and colours adds to the amusement.
And congrats on landing a feature in the paper; thoroughly deserved!

Fingers crossed!
It looks more like a stage set than a street scene, they appear to be actors waitign for someone to shout - action - the lightin is great and your timing is immpeccable, Maciej.

Do Welsh bouncers really say 'slap'? I'd have expected something a little less gentle!
Fantastic light you catch. I like these guys with their heads stuck together!

Maciej,
Your recent work in Cardiff at night has been superb. So much so it has inspired me to try and capture the mood at my fave hangouts in Seoul. I hope i wont get the same animosity you described here. Love your timing here very amusing stuff. Keep the Cardiff shots coming. Even if they do make me a little homesick!
Cheers
Good luck with the Wales on Sunday article.
