Photographer's Note

I'll never forget a story my father once told me...

In his younger days, he was walking down the street with a bag of fish and chips, when someone called out to him "that doesn't suit you".

This photograph was taken outside the local fruit and vegetable market. It is dominated by a variety of cultures nowadays; I must say, predominantly Indian. There are various shops, selling shoes, newspapers, owned by Indian people. The number of "coloured" market traders is on the increase. There is also a great new shop just behind me, named "1001 pickles"...the senses run wild in there...

The stall that you can see, sell lovely chips, hot dogs and leicester's finest doughnuts...they seem to have got smaller since I was little, or maybe I have just gotten bigger...
