Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Today, I am posting a piece of art by Terence Coventry, exhibited in The Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park. (Please see in a New Tab.)
I thought at first that the goat sculpture was made of wood but no, it is in bronze.
About the artist - Terence Coventry’s natural talent was recognised from an early age and he gained early admittance to Stourbridge School of Art where he was taught by Keith Leonard, who had been one of Barbara Hepworth’s studio assistants. He went on to study at the Royal College of Art but after his request to change from the painting to sculpture course was refused, Coventry left London to establish a career as a farmer on the South Cornish coast. The power behind Coventry’s sculpture is his strong affinity with the subjects he creates and his work is rooted in a strong figurative tradition. His sculpture explores the animals familiar to him from his years farming such as birds, bulls, cows and boars, eloquently capturing their ruggedness and gentleness, their movement and behaviour.
You would be forgiven for thinking this photograph was taken in Wiltshire, with Stonehenge in the background but, that is the beauty of this park, you never know what you are going to see!
Have a good week, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
A bronze goat seems like a perfect kind of sculpture for a park. Apart from looking nice it suits the environment and it won't harm the trees by gnawing at the bark. In this case it looks even nicer with a mini Stonehenge nearby. I think no highway tunnel is planned under this not so ancient monument.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
The trees are framing well the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture of the goat. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev
For a moment I thought it was a real goat. The wood carvers have crafted it skillfully. Then I read you note and noticed it was bronze! Make that founders and sculptors! Excellent sharpness and I like the dappled lighting in the fg. Tfs!

Hello Beverley, the goat is quite angular in the style that the artist has chosen but it is still very definitely a goat, I like it a lot. Being made from bronze it is going to last a very long time.
I had never heard of Terence Coventry, I will have to find out more.
Excellent composition, a mini-stone-henge in the background and two people enjoying the day.
A lovely dappled light in the foreground.
Kind regards, Jean.
P.S. I looked up Terence Coventry and discovered and found many more examples of his work. Please take a look, well worth the time.

Hi Bev,
I really like such almost natural looking parks. These sculptures are surprising and also quite fun as such. Miniature Stonehenge and somewhat cubistic goat, why not!

Hi Bev
A well composed scene with the goat and fake standing stones. Good colour and detail. That park must be quite large.
cheers

Hi Bev,
Fake goat and fake Stonehenge :)
But at least it seems you can enter this circle and walk freely between the stones. They seem to be more suitable to enjoy by children. I suppose this goat would not mind being ridden by a child neither.
Lovely park, plenty to see and do,
Very well done,
M

Hello Beverley,
Perhaps a stupid question but is the mini Stonehenge an artwork or a real megalithic monument? I know the UK has a lot of such monuments so I'm still having my doubts.
44 years ago I saw the real Stonehenge near Salisbury and thought it was impressive.
The bronze goat looks rather angular but that is of course the freedom of the artist. She has found shelter under a very sturdy tree.
It seems as if the artworks were set up in a large national park.
Beautiful with the alternation of sunlit parts and shadow on the grass.
Best regards, Paul

Dear Beverley,
Maybe I'm doing it wrong: I always try to catch birds and other living animals. It is really hard. It seems much easy to photograph animals just like this. Joking apart, it a nice landscape with good colours.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Beverly,
That goat needs to eat more of the grass, its bones are showing, poor thing!
Regards,
MT
PS. I would prefer Hagia Sophia to remain a museum. It's not as though the neighborhood were lacking mosques.
