Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
When taking a punting trip along the River Cam, this is the first of many bridges that you will meet, it is the Magdalene Bridge.
You can see that the punters have to be careful to choose the highest point of the arch when sailing underneath!
There has been a bridge at this point on the River Cam since Roman times.
It was reported that in 1275 the bridge was in a ruinous state and was probably rebuilt soon after. It is recorded that the bridge was rebuilt here again in 1482, at the expense of the owners of what are called the postage lands, and that another bridge was built in 1754, by subscription, when the remains of the Roman bridge were discovered.
The present bridge was built in 1823.
We were on a punt operated by a qualified punter. Some people opted to punt themselves with varying degrees of success! See the workshop!

Hello Bev,
A nice bridge with lots of people standing on it and a boat just passing below. With a view like that you can't go wrong, and the grey sky is no disadvantage for the photo. The WS is amusing and a good complement, but it's obvious that the girl trying to steer the boat doesn't quite know how to do it.

The presence of the crowd is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the bridge. There is a good contrast between the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

A great photo of this lovely small and low bridge with some nice golden elements as well. Also the many people standing on it and watching the traffic on the water make a good addition against the cloudy sky. I also like the inclusion of the warm tones of the house at left.

Hello Beverley, once again the low point of view works really well, I feel as if I am in the punt with you.
How far do you actually travel in the boat, and for how long?
This scene shows the riverside buildings very nicely, and the spectators add extra interest.

Hi Bev,
you are right, especially having an expensive camera with you, it is better to have a qualified "driver". But the girls are clearly having a lot of fun in the workshop.
The people on the bridge add so much life here, some stare at you with jealousy, while at least two couples are taking photos with you in the background.
It would be nice to see their photos :)
Great reportage, you convinced me to try it in the future!

I don't know if the water level will ever get much higher there. But then it certainly becomes necessary to choose the middle of the river to sail under the bridge.
Those who live in the house on the left always have a beautiful view of the bridge and the passers-by.
