Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
When visiting Cambridge for the first time, it is important to go on the river in a punt. From the punt, you gain views of the river and associated, historic buildings which cannot be seen from the land.
The journey will take about an hour and, with very well informed punters to share knowledge, it is very enjoyable.
(You need to barter the price for there is much competition.)
This is the Bridge of Sighs, designed by architect Henry Hutchinson and built in 1831.
It is a covered bridge and leads between the St John's College University's Third Court and New Court.
It is named after the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, although they have little architecturally in common beyond the fact that they are both covered bridges. The bridge, a Grade I listed building, is one of Cambridge's main tourist attractions and Queen Victoria is said to have loved it more than any other spot in the city.
I will add a closer view of the bridge as a workshop and a further picture.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Bev
A very fine image, well framed showing the fine architecture and other punts in the distance. WS images are good and the young man on your boat does have rather fine legs!

Hello Beverley,
Excellent perspective found with a bridge "under" the closer bridge. Such a sight most naturally gained a good sense of depth. Besides, the architecture around is one attractive asset to both photos.
Good afternoon,

Hello Beverley,
Beautiful composition with the view of the other bridge behind the Bridge of Sighs and with the boats in between both.
It seems like the punters here have to be careful not to bump their heads. The Bridge of Sighs of Venice is, in my opinion, much higher above the water's surface.
Here you should also have a nice view from inside the bridge passage. Can visitors use this covered bridge?
Great view in WS2 too.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev,
I like all these photos, of which we get the best general view in the main one. The natural low angle gives us a great view of the river and seems to enhance the importance of the bridge and the buildings on the sides. I was interested to read in the note that you have to barter the price for the punt ride. I have no experience of bartering in northern Europe but have of course done it a lot on other continents. But I have a feeling that when I have successfully managed to get the price down considerably for this kind of service, the "punter" (or whatever) has taken revenge by not doing his best.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
It has been a while since I have visited Cambridge, maybe it is time to go there again.
I never did the boat trip, the weather was not optimal on my visit there, I don't think they were working then.
Nice capture of the bridge. If this one is visible only from the boat that means the queen must have taken the boat tour as well...
Nice view of the boats further below the bridge,
M

Hi Bev,
You have captured well the movement of the Punt boats. The point of view is showing the details of the bridge of Sighs. The light is giving good colors output. Have a nice day.

Hi Bev,
A nice low point of view looking up to the elegant old bridge, with another bridge appearing through its arch. Cambridge looks like a great place to wander around, and punting on the river is obviously a popular thing. Cambridge University has a lot more character than the newer universities built in the international concrete box style, as I call it.

Hello Bev,
This is a great view of the bridge; we can see all the architectural details perfectly. It's nice that all the other punts were further down the river, and there's a clear view of this beautiful bridge. I like how the other bridge fits nicely under the arch, too. Take care!

Hello Bev,
You took this picture out of a low position.
This gives nice depth under the arches.
Also a lovely architectural image of the windows above the bridge.
Real a beauty, also your both WS picture are a nice addition.
Perfect captured and nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hi Bev,a nice experience no doubt, i never thought you could haggle the price even in a country like yours, usually it's an arab or third world thing. Great capture of the bridge reminiscent of the Venetian one in name only but it is really gorgeous, as usual that 2 excellent WS with good publicity for your sailor. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Beverley, three interesting shots from Cambridge.
As you were on the river, you were able to get a very good low point of view so that we can easily see the other punts through the arch of the famous bridge.
The light was favourable even though you were between the buildings.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Beverly
As long as the pricetag isnt €80 (about £70) like in Venice, then yes I would consider a punt ride. Otherwise I would walk along the river bank and take shots from the bridges. Good low shooting angle and sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Bev
I don't remember seeing this bridge in my one visit to Cambridge back in December 1971 but I suppose that the punt trips weren't going at that time of year.
A good photo from the punt with the view through under the bridge and on to the next one.
cheers

Hi Bev,
Thanks for the tip, I want to visit Cambridge some day. For sure a covered bridge between two buildings is enough to gain the name Bridge of Sighs! Low angle works well and it's good to see punters, though I wish at least one would be closer.

Hello Beverley,
We have many covered bridges in the US, but none can compete with the one in your photo.
Our bridges are very simple this one is a piece of art which connect two prominent buildings.
You must took this picture from another bridge or boat.
Well done with perfect quality.
Best regards,
Zbigniew
