Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone.

This photograph was taken in the beautiful county of Derbyshire.

Better seen large in New Tab.

Behind the stones, in my photograph, you will be able to see a huge lake and visitor centre, belonging to Severn Trent Water Authority. The lake is, actually a reservoir. Plans for the reservoir started in the 1960s, construction began in 1979 and was finished in 1992.

It was designed by landscape architect Lewis Knight and was officially opened by HM the Queen in 1992.

Stones Island, part of which you can see in my photograph, is Severn Trent Water's contribution to the long-standing tradition of Derbyshire hill-top monuments. Intended as a pleasant place to sit, picnic or view the surrounding countryside. Some of the stones have holes so that visitors can use them to focus upon particular areas of interest.

I will add a different view as a workshop, to show why this is called Stone Island.

Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
