Photographer's Note
A piece of 'Industrial sculpture' seen at the harbour at Newlyn.
I have no idea what it was used for, 'a thing of purpose', but what purpose?
Newlyn is a seaside town and fishing port, it lies on the shore of Mount's Bay at the edge of Penzance.
The principal industry is fishing, and home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the U.K. with over 40 acres of harbour.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
It was a good idea to take a photo of these "sculptures". They are quite beautiful, in a funny way, with their rust and dust and the blue and red pallets they're resting on. But I bet nobody will be able to tell you what they were used for.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
Objects like these can be very artistic indeed and they look particularly appealing with their rusty colours. Their round as well as diagonal lines look very attractive as well. Well spotted!

jean
looks like there was two of them side by side and a bar of iron was put inside of them, like the locks of the old doors.
nice view, looks like sculptures..

Hi Jean,
I think these rusty objects are quite photogenic. Good idea to take a photo and show it here. Rough beauty of rust. And it's nice to see red and blue paint on those wooden pallets.

Hello Jean,
It seems part of a bridge or parts to a derrick.
You create nice detailed.
Nice composition too.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Jean,
On the thumbnail I thought I saw excavated pottery ...
What a mistake :) The rust colour has misled me.
These tools were not left behind but placed on a wooden palette. So they will still be used.
Good clear and sharp shot!
Best regards, Paul

Hello Jean,
Do you ever watch antique programmes on the TV?
Industrial salvage and sculptures seem to be gaining more and more interest and are commanding greater and greater prices!
I wouldn't imagine that this is up for sale but it is definitely 'on trend'!
It is beyond my comprehension for its origins but you have recored its rusty patina and sweet shadows with fine clarity.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Jean,
I saw this photograph yesterday and puzzled and puzzled but have still not come up with a convincing idea of what these welded steel structures are! One idea I had was, in view of their situation, they might be skids for a scallop dredger but I think they are far too heavy for that. Then my next thought was that they might be "feet" for the "legs" or "outriggers" for a steadying a mobile crane while it's lifting heavy things (so that it doesn't topple).
A real conundrum but a very fine photograph with impeccable detail and sharpness and perfect exposure. The colours and textures of the rusty steel are delightful and I suppose that their juxtaposition and placement on colourful pallets could have them considered as artworks.
Very well seen and very well taken!
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Please let me know if you ever find out what they are! :)

Hello Jean,
A lovely photo of these rusty objects. If you don't know what it is (and I don't know either) you can divide it into two categories. Just junk or a piece of art designed by “chance”.
Your photo shows that the second is the best choice.
Excellent work
Have a good weekend. Be careful and stay safe, Rob
