Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Something just a little different!
My photograph shows an obvious place of learning; well Oxford is a very well known university city.
What might surprise you to learn is that this is not in a university building, nor is it a library, it is Waterstones's Bookshop.
The shop was advertising a cafe, so Viviane, Chris, Len and myself all entered for some refreshments. (We had just completed the Morse Tour, using a useful book, and were ready for a sit down, too.)
Imagine our surprise when we found most of the tables to be occupied by people studying. Some were using laptops, some had books strewn across the tables and many were borrowing the books from the Waterstone's shelves. There seemed to be no limit to the time you took at the tables!
It was a most relaxed, convivial atmosphere ... but quite quiet for a cafe!
I will add another view as a workshop.
Have a lovely, safe Sunday.
It has just started to rain here but I am not complaining, April and May have been so dry that the gardens are desperate for water, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,something that in the days of reopening that we are experiencing would not be possible in bars, at least in Italy, where people are invited to stop as little time as possible inside the room to avoid crowding. However, it was a nice surprise for you and Vivian, a coffee with culture, the two very clear perspectives were very beautiful, and it wasn't easy. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Bev,
A beautifully illustrated presentation of your visit to the Waterstone's bookshop in Oxford.
Life as it should be and hopefully come back again.
Here it is also raining a lot and that is indeed necessary for the garden.
Fortunately, there are plenty of interesting activities indoors.
Have a nice Sunday.
Be careful and stay safe, Rob

Hi Beverley,
Oxford its all about learning, doe's it?
Nice indoor's photo of the library. The picture is clear and distinct in contrasting colors and three ladies students enliven the scene.
Good afternoon,

Hello Bev,
I had to check the date taken, because this could have shown how to behave during a pandemic. There is such ideal distance between the persons, exactly what health authorities would recommend. The WS looks slightly more crowded, but not shockingly so. Both photos are very nice and showing an environment not so often seen on TE. I like the colourful rows of books on the shelves and the activity at the tables. But are English students so poor that they have to wear torn clothes? ;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev,
What an appropriate title for two photographs taken in a bookshop in Oxford! :) And, of course, Waterstones is great in that you can browse some books and have a cup of ta and a bun at the same time. Not so long ago there was an even better place called Borders Books in Glasgow which offered the same service with tea, coffee, cakes, sandwiches and the opportunity to browse books, but also listen to CDs - but unfortunately they failed to make a profit latterly and sadly closed down.
These are two really nice photographs, I suppose of "nothing special" but nonetheless there is so much to look at and examine in both of them. And how nice that you were both able to visit this place with Viviane and Chris too!
And, despite what must have been quite difficult lighting conditions, your photographs are of excellent quality.
Wonderful!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. We had lots and lots of rain over the last couple of days. A bit drier today but still some intermittent drizzle. :)

Hello Beverley, maybe a 'nothing special' pair of pictures, but actually a documentary as to life in Oxford.
It's a colourful scene with very good sharpness.
As to the torn jeans, a fashion that I think is horrible. How uncomfortable they must be!
Thanks for sharing, keep safe.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
It's very different...at first glance I thought it was a library till I read your note. I don't mind spending my hours reading or commenting TE or doing nothing at all.....just observing. Tell me, if I'm wrong....the WS photograph an elegant lady with a black dress (flowers print) sitting......could it be you. Just guessing cos she has the hair style like you.
Over here, desperate for rain too....long hours steady rain.

Hello Beverley,
My favourite kind of shop. :-) There is even a Waterstone's bookshop in Amsterdam, although luckily my local bookshop, which is only one minute away, has got an excellent selection of English literature as well. I really like the mood of the small cafι as well as the colourful background created by the many books!

Hello Bev, Yesterday we were neighbours and both with the photos from Oxford. Nice scene from booking shop. Have you seen You've got mail, with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan? It reminds me of the bookshop there, the places that one can enjoy the place, not only to buy books. It is a need of time when you can listen to the audiobooks or buy on the internet.
Oxford University Press is a famous publishing house. It has an impressive seat.
Now in many cafes in Warsaw people sit for hours to work with the laptops, like here.
Stay safe

Hello Beverley,
Since everyone on the photo in the WS is seriously immersed in a book or a newspaper, it can hardly be otherwise than that this scene takes place in a library or a bookshop.
Your main picture would rather be reminiscent of a library... although someone also finds a book useful to hide behind.
There's a Waterstone's Bookshop in the centre of Brussels but one without cafe.
And I've never seen anyone there as relaxed as on this photo. You have to look in the books while standing.
Very good quality of this pretty interior shot.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev
That's the England way of life, you can read a book and have tea or coffee, some buns.... in a bookshop. I am surprised that nowadays young people come here and don't surf on internet. Quiet moment, distanciation but no sicial one for sure.
We had downpours 10 days ago and flood, but now it's summertime with a temperature of 29°C.
Stay safe
