STORY BENCHES
The only photo on TE of Flint (Flintshire, Wales) is from 2007 and it is therefore about time for some new impressions of this historic little town.
The city is located at the mouth of the River Dee. In 1284, Flint was the first town in Wales to receive a town charter (a variant of city rights).
Flint is known, among other things, for the ruins of Flint Castle.
This castle is a scene in a play by Shakespeare, Richard II. And there is a beautiful print (watercolor on paper) by the famous JMW Turner in Tate Britain of the castle.
Three characteristic images placed at the Flint Foreshore around the ruins of “Castell y Fflint” tell their story about Flint.
Local artist Mike Owen designed the statues following discussions with the local community as part of a community arts project.
Welsh Government Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism Lord Ellis-Thomas said;
“I am delighted to see how community engagement coupled with Welsh Government funding has enabled this delightful project help reflect contemporary life and pay tribute to important local heritage. It also provides a welcome boost to Flint and the surrounding area. ”
“Each Story Seat includes a carved character that represents a story from the coast.
Having looked at all the suggestions from the locals the figures should be an RNLI officer ((Royal National Lifeboat Institution), a fisherwoman with baskets full of fish and a WWI soldier. Characters that represent Flint's past and present. ”

Hello Rob,
Even after I opened the thumbnail of this photo I thought that perhaps the woman on the bench was real, and you made it look like the RNLI man was "spying" on her. The WS shows her as the most attractive individual statue of these three, but this combination of figures makes this the most appealing and funny photo. And there was absolutely nothing wrong with some bright colours on that grey day.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hallo Rob,

Hi Rob,
At first, I tought it was an observer, your note is giving a lot of information. The point of view is showing the details of the statues. The light is giving good rendering of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
How nice that you have now doubled the number of TE postings from Flint! And not only a fine note but also three photographs for the price of just one!
These carved wooden statues are quite delightful even although none of them appears to have any facial features whatsoever. But their "dress" and what they are doing makes it quite apparent who they are.
I think you choice of main photo was a good one - the lifeboatman is by far the most colourful of the statues and makes a brilliant foreground feature, especially as he has a nicely out of focus fisherwoman in the distance as he looks out to sea (or at her!).
I like the fisherwoman too, especially as she's in the midst of gutting a basket full of fish, while the soldier appears just a little lost in his own thoughts - as well he might a century after WW1.
Three brilliant photographs, each of very high quality and cleverly captured - and a fine note to accompany them.
Wonderful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Opnieuw een foto met fictieve figuren.

Hallo Rob, these sculptures installed on the river bank tell different parts of the city history. The war, the fishing, the relation with sea belong to the inhabitants past and present. They highlight the local life. The wooden benches allow to the visitors to relax and learn more about Flint. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Rob, a good choice for your main post. I like the fisherwoman oof in the distance; it whets our appetite for the additional pictures.
A lovely idea on behalf of the Welsh authority that decided to commission the work.
The WWI soldier, I find rather poignant.
It must have felt a little strange to come across these figures in these natural surroundings, especially as they have no facial features.
Very informative notes.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Rob, Very curious sculptures on the open air. The main one is especially attractive because of the strong colours. Interesting idea. Also, nice to see the daisies and some dandelions.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Rob
A set of 3 wooden persons, the WS are understandable but the main post with its vivid colors is more attractive but also interrogative. Thanks to your note, we understand what it represents.
Have a nice w/e

Hello Rob,
You have taught me something about Flint!
I had never heard of these sculptures or their significance!
Anyway, you have brought them to our attention in a very effective way!
All three photographs exhibit the quality of fine dof and well executed composition.
There are quite a few places around the country where seats have been established, with well known characters, seated for your company!
Have a good w/e and keep safe,
Bev :-)

Dear Rob,
A bit looks like a scene from a sci-fi. In these COVID-times, humans in such a protective gears is not that surprising.
Best Wishes,
Gy.
