Photographer's Note
Tate Liverpool
One of the annoying consequences of the present Lock Down is the shutdown of large parts of the culture life.
No visits to the museum and concert hall, which in normal times fill my agenda.
Fortunately, instead of visiting a museum I can draw from the many photos that I have taken in many museums at home and abroad and I have recordings of many of my favorite classical and jazz music on my computer.
Still, I hope that soon I will be able to make new discoveries in the real world of art and not only in the virual digital world.
Today I’ve selected 3 pictures I took in TATE Liverpool.
A museum that of course could not be skipped during our visit to the city.
ZOBOB
Zobop is the name for a number of psychedelic floor designs by this Scottish artist Jim Lambie.
Strips of vinyl tape of different width in 9 different bright colors are applied in concetric lines that match the architectural layout of the floor.
ZOBOP suggests changing the world at home begins with a bit of a crazy interior. We color walls, we color doors - why not floors? The floor as an art object. Why not.
But honestly, I found this intriguing work of art a little bit too distracting from the art on the wall.
VENUS OF RAGS
Venus of Rags is a work of art by the Iatlian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto and belongs to the Italian art movement Arte Povera from the 1960s and 70s. There are several versions of the work that can be seen in different museums.
By combining the classically inspired statue with piled up patches, the artist announces a series of opposites: hard / soft, shaped / unformed, monochrome / colored, fixed / movable, precious / ignored, historical / contemporary, unique / ordinary and the cultural / the everyday.
Pistoletto here also comments on the Italian disposable and consumer society of his time, while the iconic Venus statue refers to the past, to the canon of the art history of the West.
WALKING DREAM
The Reebok 89 lady is studying the work Walking Dream with Four Foot Clamp by the American artist by Jim Dine.
A work of art made in 1965 consisting of three rectangular cancas panels with 19 ladies' legs on top.

Hello Rob,
Wonderful pattern drawn on the floor, the colors are outstanding vivid.
Good choice to include one person watching, gave good scale to the whole.
Good afternoon,

Hello Rob,
Here we get another generous gift of three highly entertaining and bright photos. The main photo is almost overwhelming. My first impression of the colourful floor is "wow, great", but maybe I would also think after a while that it distracts from the paintings on the wall. Since we don't see much of those paintings, I actually find the slice of one of them slightly distracting. It's like "this gallery ain't big enough for both of us". I might have considered cropping the upper part. In any case it's the lady in the corner that really makes the photo.
The Reebok 89 lady provides the perfect connection between art and observer, and in this case also a perfect contrast between bright colours and hardly any colours at all.
As for the Venus of Rags, I imagine Venus saying "I'm going to a party and I have nothing to put on".
Thanks for these photos. They made my day.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Rob,
As I said before, I confess to being a Philistine as far as much modern art goes - but your main photograph definitely caught my eye and, in fact, I rather like it - though I can appreciate that the dazzling colours and patterns on the floor would certainly detract from the appreciation of other works of art in these halls.
"Venus in Rags" is a different matter - and so very reminiscent of the state in which so many of our ladies might find themselves when preparing to go out to a ball or a fine meal or some other event for which they have to look their best - freshly showered, they return to their bedroom and pull every conceivable article of clothing from their wardrobe - and still cannot find the right thing to wear!
And how lucky you were that Mrs. Reebok 89 walked in front of your camera with her bright red rucksack and red flowery jacket, adding a brilliant splash of colour to that well composed shot.
I have some pictures of Liverpool Tate from the outside but have to confess that I never ventured in - that should be an experience for our next visit to Liverpool most definitely.
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Rob,
Wow! It would be impossible to miss this!!
You know, though I couldn't cope with it in my house, as an eye-catching piece of art, as shown here, I really like it! It guides around the floor area in a compelling way!
I have done line patterns with primary children and they always look extremely attractive!
I like the walking dream, too. This is modern, yet quite intriguing. It's impossible to give it a cursory look!
The Venus of Rags ... sorry, does absolutely nothing for me. I'm afraid it reminds me too much of washing day, when the children were still at home! However, that is in no way denigrating your photograph, just the subject.
Keep safe,
Bev :-)

Hi Rob,
The length of the room is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the floor artwork. The light is giving good rendering of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Rob,once again an interesting post even for an art layman like me, I admit that I had never heard of the Italian artist whose anti-consumerism message you show us in the WS. But the main photo is truly spectacular, this floor actually distracts the visitor from the works on the walls, but this style reminiscent of the Moretti tower of La Defense is a great catch-eye!Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hallo Rob, these multicolor strips create an effect of depth and an optical illusion. A visitor in the museum was captivated by the painting. The sculpture representing a naked woman comprises old clothes. The visit has a lot of surprises in store. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hallo Rob,

Hello Rob, creating this piece would have driven me mad! The slightest deviation and a line not quite parallel, what a nightmare.
It is an amazing shot; the foreground could be an abstract introduction to the whole scene, but you have decided to take us through the room as far as the opposite wall, and including the spectator, an excellent idea.
The Venus of rags, interesting but not something that I would rush to see.
Walking dream is more thought provoking.
Thanks for sharing all three.
I am completely frustrated by the present situation, unable to visit exhibitions and the like. We were due to have our new museum opened in the city as of the 16th of this month and everything has had to be put on hold. We have been waiting for four years for the refurbishment and building to be completed. I guess that we will have to wait a few months more.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Rob, I was in Liverpool but I missed the Tate Gallery, what a pity. I visited the museum of Liverpool that was also interesting. Awesome view of this room. The floor looks spectacular, and especially the lower part, it seems three dimensional. I assume that the floor is just a piece of art, and the pictures on the walls are not needed. Terrific composition. The pictures in Workshops are nice but ordinary compared to this one.
Best regards MAlgo

A beautiful part of the museum. Nice background of ribbons and perspective, beautiful colors.
Nicely shown with photos in the workshop.
A dangerous virus has changed everything.

Hi Rob,
this is quite a nice pattern on the floor. I wonder whether it would be practical to have it at home. Probably to bright for daily life. I am curious to see that there are not only straight lines there but also some curves.
Yes the lockdown has changed so much. The most apparent is the lifestyle. I actually work from home most of the time and I have a very busy time now, and it is very hard to combine it with homeschooling a child. At the same time many people have a lot of time to take care about the house and garden and look down at me that I don't do the same.
Another bad consequence is that I actually paid in advance for several trips this year, the third one would be next week. This is not gonna happen and I see already there is no way to get the money back.
Quite frustrating.
Lets focus on the bright side like TrekEarth :)

Hello rob.
Impressive graphics on this floor, if you look closely, it makes you feel dizzy, hard not to remember, a good geometric game along with the corners of the museum.
A great photo, with very good color, very well managed both lighting and sharpness.
Well done. I like.
May you enjoy Sunday.
All the best, be careful and stay safe.

rob
a curious floor with many colors in a kind of rainbow with straight lines. I liked the POV with inclusion of the personage ahead. living in a small town I have no cultural life ahead of my computer and books. my next holidays are menaced yet..
take care

Gepost terwijl ik even afwezig was op deze site, ik zie de foto pas nu. Heel herkenbaar:) Ken je mijn "Dear Prudence" foto? Min of meer zelfde locatie, maar ik heb me wat laten gaan in PP.
