Photographer's Note
Salford Dragon Boat Festival
Today three pictures I captured at the Salford Dragon Boat Festival which provided a beautiful backdrop to our Meeting with Bev, Len and Claude on 2nd June, 2019.
In addition to the dragon boat races, there was also an additional program with Chinese song, dance and martial arts demonstrations.
A number of attractive ladies in beautiful Chinese robes were happy to pose for my camera!
The Salford Dragon Boat Festival is a fundraising project of the Xinhua Chinese Association (XCA).
The XCA strives to promote Chinese culture in the UK and provides a platform for Chinese people to have their voices heard and to get involved in many main stream social activities. Over the past years, XCA has organized all sorts of social and cultural activities and events for its members and the general public. The UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most high-profile events organized by XCA.
This year the Salford Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled for Sunday 5th July and has not yet been cancelled up till now, but I would be surprised if the festival can take place on this date.

Dag Rob,
John.

Hello Rob,
The cheapest and most convenient way to see Chinese culture is obviously to go to Manchester. It also means a lot less bureaucracy and language problems. And the costumes are just as fantastic as they could possibly be in China. Isn't there a lady in typical TE red in the background? And maybe someone close to you standing close to her? ;-) The ladies in photos #1 and 2 are obviously posing for you, but what about the woman in #3. Did you manage to take that close photo from behind without her noticing you? All photos are anyway delightful and very colourful.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,
Uitstekend scherp gepresenteerd!
Prettig weekend, Paul

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the smiling expression of the women. The point of view is showing the details of their costumes. The light is bringing out the ebauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

Dag Rob,
mooie kledij uit China en dito dames. Maar wel van culturele minderheden uit het zuiden zoals de Miao, die ik hier meen te herkennen.

Hello Rob,
As always, a fascinating and informative note as well as the three wonderful images we always expect from you!
Your main image is an absolute delight, including not only the four very colourfully dressed ladies with their big smiles but also (as Gert pointed out) Beverley and (as you pointed out) your wife. And, if I'm not mistaken, at very top left, the disappearing figure of our friend, Claude.
And two brilliant workshop images of the Queen of the Festival, one full length and the other a detail image of her crown.
And all images of impeccable technical quality too.
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Rob, Interesting piece of China culture here. Nice smiling women with very rich traditional dresses. Especially, the photos of the Queen are impressive. Nice festival. I wonder if they live in the UK or just came to this festival? We have a similar festival in Warsaw, with the performances of people from exotic countries living in Poland.
They are from a minority group but I can't recognize which part of China. Probably Sichuan or Yunnan. The woman in blue belongs to a different group.
But it is also interesting to see the ladies behind. Who could be the lady in red and in black? hahaha

Hello Rob,
These colorfully attired women look like the hilltribes of Chiang Mai in Thailand, Yunnan in South China or Sapa in Vietnam. Good sharpness and a nice group portrait. Tfs!

Hello Rob,
What happy memories!
Although the weather was far from bright, your photographs look stunning!
Any one of them would have sufficed for a main post!
I particularly like the close up of the 'Queen of the Festival', taken from an unusual angle.
She really stood out!
I think we all managed to photograph her but not necessarily so artistically!
Keep safe during this awful virus plague,
Bev :-)

Hi Rob
Did you try to convert it in B&W? The main problem is that they hide the 2 smiling ladies at the back!!! I got also some pictures of the lady in the WS, so attractive, how can we resist.
Cheers
