Funerary monuments in York Minster
Let's go inside the York Minster and take a closer look at some details.
Walking through the side aisles of the church we see many funerary monuments erected in the outer walls, tombs of the Wealthy 17th century people.
I found some further information about three monuments
■ Picture 1: ◄ William Ingram & Catharina Edmonds ►
Sir William was son of Hugh Ingram and Jane Goldthorpe. He married Catherine Edmonds of Cambridge, and they had 4 children, including William (d. 1669) who is also commemorated on the memorial.
Sir William was Canon of York and a civil servant. He died in 1623.
The three ladies sitting in front of the memorial reminded me of the Three wise monkeys: Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Say No Evil.
■ Picture 2: ◄ Sir Henry and Lady Belassis. ►
Sir Henry Belasyse, 1st Baronet (1555–1624) was an English politician. He was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge. He succeeded his father in 1604 and was created a baronet "of Newborough" in 1611.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Thirsk in 1586, 1589 and 1593. After sitting for Aldborough from 1597 to 1601 he was again elected for Thirsk in 1601.
He married Ursula Fairfax, a daughter of Sir Thomas Fairfax of Denton, Yorkshire, by whom he had one son and at least one daughter:
■ Picture 3: ◄ Sir William Gee ►
William Gee born in 1562, was secretary of the Council of the North and Keeper of the Signet from 1604. William Gee married his first wife Thomasine Hutton, daughter of Mathew Hutton. They had one son and two daughters before Thomasine died aged 29 years in 1599.
William Gee's second wife was Mary Crompton, daughter of one of the queen's auditors. William Gee died in early 1612 at the age of only 50 and his wife was forced to buy the wardship of his oldest son to maintain some family control over the estates.

Hello Rob,
The three ladies complement the Renaissance funerary monument very nicely, adding so many colours and so much life the the portraits of the dead. Maybe your description of them was not entirely respectful... But I don't mind. They make the photo so much more vivid.
The other photos are also interesting and make me wonder just how lifelike the figures may have been. Were they made to be very similar to the real persons or did they just fit the current style? In any case it's interesting to learn something about the persons behind these usually anonymous sculptures you see in a cathedral and usually leave after a minute without any further consideration.
Best regards,
Gert

Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit een druilig Vlaanderen, +2°C;

Hello Rob,
A very serious faces expression of the three ladies but a fine photo of this corner of the cathedral.
I must had been a bit sarcastic, but forgive me for seeing this at first.
Beautiful three posts on the subject.
Good afternoon,

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the wondering expression of the persons. The point of view is showing the details of the funerary monument. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Dag Rob,
Het is een flink en opmerkelijk grafmonument waar de rijken zich als vroom konden presenteren maar ik ben blij dat je ook de kleurrijke bezoekers eronder hebt meegenomen in de foto.
groet, Gerrit

Hello Rob,
It isn't always easy to photograph interesting elements within a church or cathedral because of poor lighting conditions but you have achieved three, excellent clear shots, here, which are very well cropped, to give them ultimate attention.
The dress code of those times is very different to modern dress! There is so much more that you can learn from cathedrals other than just the architecture.
You have also added a little humour.
These three could easily be characters in one of the many soap operas!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hallo Rob,
Ze hebben wel werk gemaakt van deze grafmonumenten met al die uit hout gesneden beelden. Het leek deze toeristen maar weinig te kunnen boeien helaas. Of ze hebben gewoon nog niet achterom gekeken.

Hi Rob
Good collection of photos of the monuments but it is the women below the main one that interest me most with their different expressions.

Hello Rob, I remember these funerary monuments from the York Minster and how I was surprised to see them painted. we can see well how the people were dressed at that time. Very interesting. Nice all the pictures but in the main photo the three women steal the show. Especially the lady in blue. I would clone out the piece of someone on the right side.
Have a nice weekend

Hallo Rob, York minster contains elegant funerary monuments located on the side aisle of the church. They are dedicated to wealthy 17th century people. A coat of arms, figurines and statues are represented. I like the beautiful stained glasses in the bg. The three ladies are well included in the fg. Fine colors, good sharpness, explanatory photo note, regards.

I liked a lot of these three images. I probably have some of them in my own archive. I saw so many of them in UK and choose many to be registered. very funny the chinese tourists in FG and the medieval artwork ahead, a special contrast. What that old british people would say about this image?
take care

Hi Rob,
lovely series of photos from York Minster.
I think I reached a moment in my life when I visited most places in a driving distance radius which I wanted to visit and so I will start revisiting some favourites. York will be definitely on the list of places to re-visit. I just want to wait for better weather which may not happen for a while again.
The ladies make such a lovey addition to the scene here. The have colorful clothes elements and lovely poses.
Very well seen and captured,
M

Dear Rob,
You spotted and recorded the humour in the scene well. The contrast between the figures on the alter and the tourist either playing with phones, or just simply staring dull is stunning!
Best Wishes,

Hello, Rob!
Very interesting to see the completely different reaction of the three women on the bottom of the image, and their colorful clothes stand out beautifully in the composition! The details of the art have also been very well captured, with good light and sharpness! Very nice job!
