Photographer's Note
Get Brexit Done
I will open this new year by starting a travelogue of my visit to England and Wales in the spring of 2019.
With the first series of three photos I want to briefly consider the upcoming departure of the UK from the EU or as Boris Johnson calls it: "Get Brexit Done".
The majority of the British people have spoken so we have to accept that.
Because much criticism of “Brussels” is justified, it is unfortunate that the UK did not choose to jointly make the necessary improvements within the European Community. Britain choose for the uncertain path of Brexit where a chaotic final departure at the end of the year is still possible if negotiations for separate trade agreements aren’t successful.
Fortunately, our British TE friends do stay within the TrekEarth community.
In this travelogue I will also report on our meeting with Bev, Len and Claude.
I have chosen three symbolic photographs, all of which were taken in King’s Lynn - Norfolk
■ Picture 1: ◄ Breaking the Chain ►
■ Picture 2: ◄ Raising the Anchor ►
■ Picture 3: ◄ Uncertain Horizon ►
The order of the three photos has been chosen because of the sequence of events !
The best way to view the pictures is to use the links above.

Hello Rob,
You make an old and traditional monument (I guess) look quite modern. The black chains on the red brick floor make a graphically very attractive composition, with the symbolic meaning as an additional asset. The same goes for the second photo, while #3 is something completely different (I have watched a lot of Monty Python the last few days). I wonder what that photo is actually showing, and where you found it, but it's perfectly chosen for this occasion.
It's really sad to see the UK leave. People went to a referendum based on wishful thinking and false hopes but only had an indirect say at the final results of negotiations. We did it the other way, which seems more reasonable, voting when we knew for what.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Rob
You make an interesting observation here with chains and community. I feel all countries have the right to choose their destiny if the people so choose. Europe seems to be in a constant state of flux. Good neighbors one day, then not so much the next. We humans can be such a fickle bunch. We all share this big rock together. Too bad we could not work together for a safer, heathier, and more tolerant planet. Just a thought. Nice set of images to bring about discussion.

Hallo Rob,

Hi Rob
A very contagious subject in the UK still, three years on, both for those who really want the country to leave the EU and those, like me, who would prefer us to stay. The problem is, the consequences will affect all of us.
Great series of three photos and brilliant idea to assign symbolic meaning to them all as a sign of the times.
Best wishes

Hi Rob,
When Brexit is done, it will be part in the history book of the future including aslo theo fro and against analysis. The point of view is showing the details of the chains of unity. I think unity is better then going appart. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
Have you left the USA travelogue? Wow. Nice to read that you met Bev, Len and Claude. I haven't had any TE meeting for a long time and I do not foresee any :(.
Interesting series of pictures and the note about Brexit. Why do so many people want to be separate from the UE? I fear that it could happen to Poland too.
Fantastic
rendering of the iron chain surface and the pavement bricks.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Rob, three excellent shots, and the symbolism is spot on. The three titles sum it all up nicely.
Living in the U.K. I am not going to comment on Brexit, the conclusion will be what it will be, I can’t do anything about it now.
All three shots have something special. I particularly like the’Raising the anchor’ picture with the very sharp focus on the worn metal, and a lovely bokeh.
I would love to know where you took the shot ‘Uncertain Horizon’, our view through the diamonds of glass fits perfectly with the title.
Kind regards, Jean.

Dag Rob,
Heel mooi detail van deze zware ketting.
Vroeger kon men smeden, en ook kettingen aan elkaar smeden.
De zware moker en smidse vuur waren o zo belangrijk.
Heel mooie en scherpe foto. Bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Rob,
It is interesting viewing the coming Brexit from your angle.
The photographs are spot on for the purpose as well as being spot on for their clarity and composition.
I don’t need to ask about the last shot, which I find amazingly well conceived and executed, as I have read your notes to Gert and Jean.
You know my feelings about Brexit but, we live in a democracy.
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hello Rob,
Nice and symbolic composition. The giant chain and brick pavement complement each other very well. The WS "Uncertain Horizon" is fascinating and very eye-catching, too. Brexit got so confusing that I stopped trying to follow the latest updates. I hope it all works out in the end!

Hi Rob
Superb metaphores to describe your vision of the situation. Brexit is done, but it's only the beginning of a hard year for discusion to rewrite commercial agreements.
Divorce is signed, now speak of money!!!
Cheers

I shall be looking forward to this series on Britain and Brexit.
Being a dual national couple living in France, we of course have been hanging on all the news about “Brexit” or “Remain” for the past 4 years and kept hoping it wouldn’t happen after all !!
Well ! Now it’s “Come what may !” We are so fed up with the situation....
I particularly like pict1 and pict3
p1 : Let’s remain united , like the rings of a chain (But does union mean slavery ? I personally don’t think so)
p3 : The future is too uncertain.
TFS and kindest regards.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Rob,
Although I have no stake in those affairs, I am kind of sad about Brexit, too. I wonder if they will be able to hold on to Scotland after Brexit.
Nice, artsy photo well rendered. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hello Rob,
Not coincidentally, the decision to go ahead with Brexit was made at a time when millions of Syrians and other refugees were making their way to Europe. Ironically, now that some immigrants are leaving the UK for other countries like Canada, the Tories are complaining that they are deserting us and have no loyalty. There is no pleasing some people. Personally if I were British I would consider it an honour and a privilege to be part of the EU. Europe is enjoying the longest ever period of peace in its long and chequered history. That alone is sufficient reason to try and keep it going. The symbolic chains here show how the Tories feel, not so much the people of Britain, and especially Scotland and Ireland which voted to stay. Tfs!

Hi Rob
i'm a fan of these symbolic and metaphoric type of posts, its not only about the lock and chains, there's a much more meaningful motif in the bg. When I look at these chains, I think of Brexit being deadlocked. smart post, creative. cheers

Hello, Rob!
Interesting X formed by these ropes, and the details were captured with very good sharpness! The image has a very nice graphism, helped also by the patterns of the floor. Wonderful job!
